Polk High School News Highlights Student Activities
Senior students will practice teaching at rural schools next week. Tickets for the senior class play are on sale at the Davis Pharmacy. The Freshman Class hosted a scavenger hunt Wednesday. Regent Exams by the University of Nebraska will be April 3 with 250 scholarships awarded to top students and one per school. Polk students listed: Arthur Bates, Shirley Nyberg, Glennis Widga, Rosalie Ekstrom, Ramona Sundberg. Band uniforms arriving in April delays the pre contest music program to April 15. Polk enters the annual Inter High School contest at Kearney March 2x with Grand Champions trophies for top honors. Polk participants listed. Seward man Adolph Myers buys Terrill Bros Garage and assumes management. Terrill brothers from York to operate the garage and repairs, future plans undecided.

Obituary of Sophia Hokenson former Polk resident
Sophia Hokenson born December 15 1863 in Kals Kro na Sweden immigrated 1887 to Polk County Nebraska married Charles Hokenson June 7 1887 had four children two died young moved from Swede Plain to Polk in 1912 to Spirit Lake Iowa then Des Moines died March 18 1947 at age 83 after long illness survived by daughter Mrs John Elving Spirit Lake and son Arthur Los Angeles. She was affiliated with Swede Plain Methodist Church and Evangelical Free Church Funeral services were held at Brauer Funeral Home March 22 conducted by Rev Milford Olson interment Swede Plain cemetery.

Real Estate Brings Good Prices at Referee’s Sale
Four tracts totaling 240 acres once owned by Wm Oberg east and south of Polk were sold at referee’s sales in Osceola and York. The total bid reached $29,650 with eightyt acres in Polk going to Edn Oberg at 61 dollars an acre. Vernie Lundberg purchased 40 acres in York at 157 dollars per acre, and Martin A Hoffman bought 120 acres in York at 149 dollars per acre.

The Mixture 4-H Club met at the Victor Sterup home with all members present. They will join Henry Ihnen in Columbus March 24 for the 4-H FoGe Judging Contest at the Nebraska Aberdeen Angus show. A 4-H party is set for April 12 at Stromsburg high gym. Feeder Day in Lincoln April 18 and new Extension Circular 171 on Stubble Mulch Farming are announced. The Black and White Show is May 31 in Aurora with prize money. several Polk County men plan to enter.
