Polk High Senior class under sponsor Lawrence Swanson reports community collections totaling 325.81 for the March of Dimes campaign. Funds come from Happy Hour Club, Faithful Worker's Club, Polk Woman's Club, residents, businesses, cake raffle, blanket toss, and pupil contributions. Jo Strand, president, thanks supporters and sponsors.
Polk County residents may designate blood units for Warren Bedient as the Omaha Red Cross program credits, with the center in Omaha supplying credits while the Polk bloodmobile stops at the Legion Hall on Friday March 27.
During the week $70 was added to the Warren Bedient Fund. Donors include O E Adelson Kermit Lindgren Cenith Penrose Gordon Fossberg Ted Gleim Oscar Anderson Richard Myers Lincoln Reuben Ehn and others. Previous total reported was 6,694.12. new total 6,764.12.
The Republican Women Club will meet in Osceola on April 1 at Laura Delfs's home. All interested are welcome to attend.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church Polk for Oscar E Jones 70 a Polk area resident. Burial followed at Arborville Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. He was born March 11 1900 near Polk educated in rural schools farmed near Polk retired in 1947 married Margaret Graves in Council Bluffs 1923. Survivors include his widow a son Max two daughters Beverly Bills and Joyce Baack two brothers Martin and Calmar two sisters Martha Yohe and Clara Anderson and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents a brother and an infant daughter.
A compiled docket shows numerous defendants from Shelby Osceola and nearby towns paying fines for night and day speeding vascar radar and related offenses, plus expired licenses and license plate issues. Amounts range from 10 to 100 dollars with 5 dollar costs in each case.
Announcement from the superintendent Walter Nielsen lists ten faculty members who have signed contracts for the 1970-71 term, including Richard Hoops Gary Warden Dennis Johnson Helen Eriksen Lucile Tyler Tene Good Mildred Sterner Van e Nyberg and Jean Nielsen.
