Pfc Allen W Tonniges 20 son of Mr and Mrs Virgil Tonniges of Polk received the Army Commendation Medal near Tay Ninh Vietnam February 6 for heroism on December 26 1969 While under heavy fire he remained in an exposed position to evacuate wounded comrades aiding in the unit’s defense in Vietnam His actions earned him commendation and reflect credit on the 25th Infantry Division and the United States Army.

Obituary Oscar Emanuel Jones of Polk
Oscar Emanuel Jones born March 11 1900 died March 21 1970 at age 70 living in Polk farmed south of Polk before moving to town in 1947. He married Margaret Graves on December 8 1923 in Council Bluffs Iowa and had four children Minx Millicent Joyce Beverly. He was a member of First Baptist Church Polk Lodge A F and A M No 311 Willana Eastern Star 32 Scottish Rite Tehama Shrine Hastings. Survived by wife Margaret son Max daughters Mrs Robert Baack and Mrs Lowell Bills, daughter-in-law and two sons-in-law, 15 grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, four sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, Anna Wurtz mother-in-law of Stromsburg, and many friends. Services March 24 1970 at First Baptist Church with Rev Gene Wood officiating and solos by Mrs James Lindburg. Graveside by Polk Lodge A F and A M No 311.

Cancer Drive Starts In County This Week
Mrs Glen Babcock and Mrs Irvin Anderson will lead the Polk area in the 1970 educational and fund raising crusade of the American Cancer Society during April.
