Easter Sunday service of worship in music at Polk Baptist Church basement at 8 00 p m. Youngest musicians perform in recital followed by the Easter story in Scripture and song by adults. Public invited.
Emma Johnson was honored Friday afternoon March 19 on her birthday anniversary by members of the Club friends and neighbors. About thirty attended and shared a luncheon from self invited guests. Hosts wished her many happy returns of the day.
The Ericson Jewelry Store at Stromsburg, a longtime city business, was sold last week to Mrs Iazel Carlson of Polk. The store has been run by Mrs Carlson for three years in partnership with her apparel shop in the same building, while the former owner Cortford Ericson lives in Boulder, Colorado.
Mr and Mrs Junior Sealy moved into rooms at the hotel last week. The brief item notes their occupancy and location without additional details.
The Wordville Royal Neighbor Camp marks its 25th anniversary at a March meeting at Fordville Lodge Walk. Charter members May Slater Mable Samuelson Martha Benson Joske Nicholson and Purle Knutson, all of Hardville, receive twenty five year pins. Elenora Nelson of Grand Island also noted. Pins were previously sent to Helen Wallin Los Angeles and Blanch Malsap Big Springs NE. Emma D O Nelson past Oracle presented a Past Oracle Pin. Ruth Benson joins by transfer from Palmer. An out of town guest attended and three sisters receive charter pins.
Mra and Mra Bob Rawe of An thorage Alaska visited Monday in the home of her grandfather Charles McGinnis. Mrs Benjamin, confined with a badly sprained limb and back, is able to be up and around again.
The first Polk County 4-H Soil Conservation Club was organized March 22 with officers and leaders named. Members discuss sponsoring the World Herald Conservation film Regimented Raindrops and field tours on soil types, while inviting more youth to join. Upcoming events include the annual Bankers Banquet for 4-H leaders on April 1 and awards for long-serving members at Osceola Methodist Church. Farmers urged to buy New Improved Ceresan seed treatment to combat blights and protect crops this spring.
The AAA office in Lincoln extends the final date for signing 1048 AAA farm plans from April 1 to April 15 1948 due to adverse weather. Farmers who signed plans should complete all conserving intents by April 16. The 1947 Commodity Credit Corporation wheat loans are due by April 30 1948 with payment options at the bank or county AAA office.
Floyd O. Asher of the York Nebraska Recruiting Substation announced that qualified veterans from any service can join the United States Air Force and earn a non-commissioned grade up to Technical Sergeant. He said grading is based on skill and experience across about 300 specialties, and the program is open to former officers as well. Asher noted higher potential civilian income for Technical Sergeants and engaging work in aviation R D. Polk County roads, heavily saturated by two months of snow and rain, are gradually drying. Farmers report muddier than usual conditions, with lowlands flooded and lakes slow to recede. As March ends and temps rise into the 50s, spring work plans take shape and subsoil moisture may boost upcoming crops.
Mr and Mrs Johnnie Preston and children of York and Mr and Mrs Bob Rowe of Anchorage Alaska visited Tuesday evening in the home of their grandmother Mrs Ilennie Seymour. The Preston family then drove the Rowes to Central City to depart for Valentine Nebraska to visit his parents.

The Senior Play Brides To Burn with listed cast will be performed in April. Proceeds from the Pre con test on April 18 fund District Music Contest travel.
Mr and Mrs Lligud Erickson returned from a Minneapolis trip and attended a wedding in Minnesota. Attendees included Miss Betty Ann Ohman and James Bowers. Several residents visited relatives, attended events, or traveled to Columbus, Lincoln, and Lindsborg for weddings and luncheons. Military discharge visits, hospital stays, and convention attendance are noted alongside moving to new rooms above the John A Falk building.
