Swede Home News Birthday Celebrations and Visits

Mr. and Mrs. Edd Oberg and Alice, Mr. and Mrs. Robi Oberg and Lanny, and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Kealiher joined Henry Samuelson for a birthday anniversary. Death of Ed Stevens at Lodgepole leaves family in grief

Relatives report the sudden death of Ed Stevens at Lodgepole Nob. He was 67, brother of Wil Theo Stevens and Mrs J C McClure of Polk and cousin of Wm Glen and Walter Green. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church here with burial in Park Cemetery. Immediate family includes his wife Steene a daughter Mrs Walter a sister of Dalton and three sons Edmund Rodney and Stanley.

Recent Bride Honored At Upper Town Kitchen Shower

A kitchen shower was held last Thursday evening in the hotel dining room for Mrs. Vern Eklund. Thirty guests enjoyed games and gifts were presented from a center table featuring the Taster Bunny. Luncheon followed on pully decorated tables hosted by Mrs. Glen Green Mrs. Tomet Green and Mrs. Clarence Munn.

Birthday party honors Mrs. Carl Steelquist

A party at the Lindahl home celebrated Mrs. Carl Steelquist of Lincoln. Attendees included Mrs. Frank Nelson of Central City, Mrs. Kroger, Mrs. Yinquist, Mrs. Myrtle Bush and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Nick McNaught and their sons, plus the Steelquist and Lindahl families. Andrew May of Shelby visited Sunday evening in the Jake Harding home.

Severe wind damages wires in county

An intense wind storm with sleet and snow disrupted electric and telephone service Friday night. Consumers Public Power crews worked through Saturday to restore power while Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph crews repaired many line breaks, especially between Shelby and Osceola. Telegraph lines suffered extensive damage with 40 down poles between this point and Rising City. Easter Sunday brought clear skies and warmer temperatures.

Polk High athletes shift focus to track and baseball after basketball. Three lettermen Wilden Volz Gail Keniiher Derald Johnson lead a promising track group with Bur dette Flodman Kenny Upt on Norval Nielsen Dale Nyberg and Roger Lane among others. Polk Insurance Firm Mears Annual Report

At its annual meeting in Stromsburg the Scandinavian Insurance company reported more than 5 million dollars in insured in force. The locally operated firm writes fire, hat and wind insurance mostly in Polk county. John W. Anderson was reelected secretary and Frank Adelson named director for a three year term.

Miss Hope Gwendolynne Eaton joins Sigma Theta Phi at Kearney State Teachers College where she studies music. The Arborville Congregational Church confirms Frances and Florence Shockey. Small Grain Yields Boosted by Nitrogen in 1947 Demonstrations

Nebraska county agents and experiment station workers report nitrogen fertilizer increases in oats and barley across eastern Nebraska. Nitrogen alone boosted oats profits in 86 percent of trials with an average 17 bushels per acre. combining nitrogen with phosphorus improved profits in 70 percent of trials. Barley showed minimal gains from nitrogen phosphorus mixes. Emphasizes legumes in crop rotation for soil health and notes Indiana tests linking soil protein to grain quality.

Farm Fire Safety Warns Against Smoking Debris

Officials urge keeping fields clear of cigars and cigarettes as sparrows and other birds may carry lit butt embers to nests in buildings, posing major fire risk.
