Hulda Elizabeth Deremer Brobst dies at Benedict home
Hulda Elizabeth Deremer Brobst 81 died March 11 1949 at her daughter’s home in Benedict after a long life in York county. She lived sixty years in Benedict built her home there and left six children three daughters two sons and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held March 14 at Zion Lutheran church Benedict with Rev Rupley officiating. Burial followed at Bethel cemetery east of Benedict.

Auxiliary Hosts Night for Legion 30th Anniversary
The American Legion Auxiliary entertained the Legion and wives at the legion hall on Thursday evening March 17 for the 30th anniversary. Mrs Henry Horstman read A Present For Colonel Wilson while Mrs Oscar Jones presented dishes and a case for the Preamble. Don Ostberg thanked the auxiliary as guests visited played bridge and cards. A lunch of sandwiches salads brick ice cream cake and coffee was served to 65 guests by the committee.

Polk to Lose Rural Carrier After 30 Years of Service
Chester R. Underhill retires after thirty years as rural mail carrier. He began route three in Stromsburg on November 25 1918 and moved to a 59 mile Polk route serving nearly 200 patrons out of the Polk office. The family remains in Stromsburg.
