Gissler Leads Entire National Fidelity Sales Force

Bert Gissler of Osceola tops the National Fidelity Life Insurance Company production staff for February earning Man of the Month honors. Since joining in June 1947 he has repeatedly led, earned Honor Staff status, and won trips to Chicago and Kansas City for conventions. Gissler is active in Polk County communities through church and athletics and coached local basketball and Junior Legion baseball after leaving Osceola schools in 1947.

Former Polkite Axel Johnson Dies on California Coast

Axel Johnson 65 formerly of Polk died at his California home. Survived by wife and two California children Lynas and Elois Johnson. local relatives. Mrs. Wayne Hill and Charles Johnson learned of the death Monday after visiting him in California.

Orlie and 25th Anniversary Open House

Polk County 4-H Extension News Update Meetings and Banquet

The Polk County extension notes trainer meetings for 4-H Home Economics leaders in York on April 5 and Columbus on May 14 from 10:00 to around 3:30. Home Agents will attend both meetings and transport is available. A report of attendees is due two weeks prior. The 4-H Leaders Banquet, sponsored by Polk County Bankers, is set for March 22 at 6:30 p.m. in Osceola Lutheran Church basement. The Womans Council met with 15 present, outlining plans for a Spring Tea and travel to Fremont leader recognition.

Fremont leadership recognition program honors rural homemakers

The Fremont Chamber of Commerce hosted the Leadership Recognition program for Rural Homemakers from ten counties including Polk Platte Colfax Butler and Douglas. After tours of the Mode A Day Dress Factory and a city auditorium dinner the group heard welcome addresses and enjoyed a Midland College A Capella concert.

Polk High Band Pops Concert Delights Local Audience

Polk High Band staged a lively March concert on Friday with instrumental pieces and vocal numbers. Norval Nielsen entertained as a Jerry Colona character while The Talking People narrated a salesman tale. The program closed with Emblem of Unity as the band exited. A spring song festival is planned for early April.

Methodist Young People Meet Sunday at Adelson Home

Polk County Grade Basketball Tournament Crowned Polk Champs

The Polk County Grade Basketball Tournament was held March 10 and 12 at Polk high school. Polk defeated Osceola 34 to 26 in the final, led by Holmes with 19 points. Osceola trailed 19 to 12 at halftime before Polk pulled away in the second half.

The Pep Club hosted an athletic party in the high school gymnasium on Wednesday evening to honor all boys who participated in athletics this year.

Don Campbell of the U S Navy left Columbus Monday for San Francisco after furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs Lee Campbell. Dispersed visits include Mr and Mrs Ed Michener with family, Mr and Mrs Pete Stromberg and Ruth Merkliner, Mrs F O Johnson and Arline, Rolland Johnson and Carl Smith, Harland Fusby family, Maggie and Jess Austin, and Coral Johnson visiting Osceola. John Dahlgren, injured on a Minnesota turkey farm, is hospitalized in Duluth. Pfe Robert Jenkins now guards the American Embassy in Nanking. Emily Salisbury of Lincoln returned after visiting her brother Ansel Nordstrom and sister Dena Hedlund.

Shelby Friends Attend Surprise 57th Anniversary Party

Mr and Mrs W H Houderscheidt celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in Columbus Sunday afternoon with a surprise party. Forty guests attended including the Funkhouser Funkhouser Houderscheidt and Kinman families. Lunch was served as part of the gathering.
