Charles Hillis Sterner born October 24 1898 at Schuyler Nebraska. He lived most of his life in York County farming and spent three years in Albuquerque New Mexico on construction with brother Hilbert. He married Mildred Merchant June 4 1924. He died March 8 1971 at Hastings Nebraska after ill health. Survived by wife Mildred two daughters Mrs Stanley Peterson Hastings and Mrs Roy Glasser Jr Polk two sons Duane Sterner Chula Vista California and Galen Sterner Trumbull Nebraska one brother Cyril York Nebr two sisters Mrs Olga Worrest Lincoln and Mrs Mildred Baker Benedict eight grandchildren four great grandchildren and many relatives. Services March 10 Arborville Congregational Church Rev Lindley Cook officiating. Songs Ivory Palaces and In The Garden sung by Floyd Merchant with organist Mrs Robert Merchant. Casket bearers Fred Bedient Harry Guidinger Myron Norquest Robert Ostrander Lloyd Van Husen John Wochner. Interment Arborville cemetery.

Airman Marvin Dittmer arrives at Nellis AFB Nevada

U S Air Force Staff Sergeant Marvin A Dittmer son of Minnie Mier Polk has arrived for duty at Nellis AFB Nevada. Dittmer a jet engine mechanic is assigned to a Tactical Air Command unit and previously served at Cam Ranh Bay AB Vietnam. He is a 1955 Polk High School graduate and is married to Jane Hicks.

Sign-up Time For M E Fair Contest

March is the sign-up month for the Nebraska State Fair Muscle Efficiency Contest a carcass contest based on pounds of ham and loin per day of age Pigs enrolled and tattooed by Extension of Pork Producer personnel The contest is sponsored by the State Fair and the Nebraska Pork Producers Association Premium money at least 200 plaque to the winner and enrollment supervision by the association Contact the Extension Office by March 19.

Bloodmobile collects 59 pints in Polk

The Red Cross Bloodmobile visited Polk last Thursday reporting 61 donors and 59 pints collected. It was sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary at the Legion Hall with many named volunteers and first time donors Barbara Gnauden and Rodney Johnson.
