Gordon Johnson to Study Guided Missiles at Ft Bliss

Pvt Gordon Johnson son of Mr and Mrs Milford Johnson of Polk Texas is enrolled in the Anti Aircraft and Guided Missiles Branch at Fort Bliss Texas. He will spend several months studying a course in Artillery Fire Control System maintenance. Gordon graduated from Polk High School in 1949.

Memorial Observed in Methodist Church

A memorial for Joseph McClure was observed during Sunday worship at the Methodist Church. Albert Sundberg delivered remarks and Marvin Fredrickson gave the response. A male quartet sang in memoriam including Gaylen Holmes Walden McNaught Albert Sundberg and Milton OConnell.

Farm Bureau Women Tour Lincoln Details

Sixty one Polk County ladies joined a Lincoln tour sponsored by the Associated Women of Farm Bureau. They traveled by two chartered buses and cars, visited the Capitol, saw tax bills debated, met Governor Crosby and Lt. Gov. Warner, toured the governor’s mansion, Elgin Watch Factory, Miller and Payne, and viewed a Vogue model show.

Blood Mobile Visit Sets New High in Polk County

An all time high bloodmobile visit occurred Friday at Shelby Parish Hall with 195 volunteers and 173 pints collected. Only 22 donors were rejected. Nine donors from Polk aided the drive along with two nurses and Mrs. O EB Jones. A portion of the blood will stay in Polk County as gamma globulin. Polk County now has four 1 gallon men. Arnold Ekstrand, Ralph Johnson, and Lawrence Lina of Stromsburg and G Clarence Carlson of Osceola assisted.

Alfreda tatoottt clan and a former Polk resident, passed away in Lincoln Wednesday March 4. While residing in Polk, Mr. Gahn was connected with the Anderson Furniture Co. and is known by many here. He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Earl Warren of Austin, Texas.

Polk Grabs Conference Final Spot in Sweep

Polk Grades, the conference leading team, advanced to the finals at Silver Creek after a first round 40 to 17 win over St. Paul led by Gary Skaden and a 81 to 20 semifinal victory over Osceola with Frank Harding and Bruce Johnson contributing. Coach John Sweenie prepared the squad for the final against Stromeburg.
