At a board meeting last Monday all teachers were reelected while Biffar plans to resign as math teacher and athletics coach. Miss Taylor declined reelection for the 5th and 6th grades. To save money enrollment will group grades 1 2 3 in one room and grades 4 5 6 in another. Replacement for Biffar as coach is pending.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rystrom of Greens Chapel celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house. Guests included 125 callers and 65 messages of congratulations. The couple have lived on the same farm home since marriage. their family includes twelve children with several abroad. A color scheme of gold and white decorated the dining room and tea table while a family dinner followed at six.
The Polk Woman's Club met Tuesday afternoon at the Gordon Eno home with Mrs. Eno and Mrs. Paul Strand hosting. Officers for the coming year were elected: President O. F. Alfred, Vice President Estines, Secretary Lloyd Eroger, and Treasurer Carl Steelquist. A penny march supported planting Penny Pine trees and plans for landscaping vacant lots were discussed. Marjorie Nelson sang Roses of Picardy and China program leaders included Mrs. C R Peterson and Mrs. Albert Sundberg. Refreshments served to 17 members and 13 visitors.
The caucus at the school house Wednesday night named Village Board nominees Glenn Hill Albert Sundberg Wm Wright and Lloyd Kroger. For the Board of Education Carla Steelquist W R Whitacre Mrs Theo Stevens and W L Lindburg were chosen.
Joiner W. Mickey former Osceola resident died in Phillipsburg Montana after a rock slide crushed him between a gas shovel cab and engine. He was loading ore from a high dump when rocks toppled onto the cab trapping him. he died from chest injuries and burns. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church yesterday. Mickey was born September 14 1886 in Wapello Iowa later living in Osceola Nebraska. He married Dora Purtle and is survived by a son Jack a mother and siblings including Mrs Olive Mickey and Mrs Walter Andgren both of Grand Island Nebraska.

Polk records a marriage between Clarence Jones son of Mr and Mrs L P Jones of Grand Island and Mrs Hazel Johnson of Grand Island. The ceremony took place Sunday afternoon with a reception that evening at the bridegroom's sister Mrs Harry Hassel in Grand Island for fifty relatives. The couple will reside in Orion Illinois.
Polk County residents held more than 100000 dollars in the First Mortgage Acceptance Company of Omaha. From Stromsburg area, a salesman and others show investments: John Beardsley 14000, August Anderson 16000, Ozra Carter of Silver Creek 21000, Nels Hall of Polk 7780, and other holdings above 50000.
The Blue River Hog Raisers swine club organized February 2 with twelve members. Richard Thelen of Shelby leads, Leonard Hiemer is assistant leader. Officers include Edward Richter as President Earl Graff as Vice President and Secretary Dorothy Thelen News Reporter. Other members are Lawrence Richter Dale Hopwood Richard Hiemer Albert Krumbach John Krumbach Donald McBeth Loyd McBeth.
The marriage of Miss Irene Hanson and Lloyd Adelson was solemnized at the Lutheran Church at Swede Home on Sunday afternoon March 5 at 3:00. Lois Anderson and Raymond Hanson attended. Irene Hanson, daughter of Andrew and Mrs Hanson, studied at Osceola High School class of 1937 and worked in the Conservation office in Osceola courthouse. Lloyd Adelson, son of Alec and Mrs Adelson near Polk, is a High Prairie graduate who attended Imber College at Wahoo and has farm work since. They will reside on a farm near Polk after a brief trip to Omaha.
Polk county farmers continue enrollment in the 1939 Agricultural Conservation program. County AAA chairman Taddiken reports 933 completed intention sheets with about 60 percent sign-up, predicting a 50 percent rise over 1938. State figures show roughly 86 percent participation on early sign-ups, compared with 55 percent last year. Farmers urged to meet with their local committee to plan acreage allotments soil goals and maximum payments under the 1939 program.
Mr and Mrs C A Wilshusen of Polk announce the coming marriage of their daughter Irene to Alton E Driewer son of Mr and Mrs John Driewer of Hampton. The wedding is planned for April 9 near Polk.
The Polk Grades beat High Prairie 25 to 12 in a preliminary clash before the Swedes Central College game. Wil lits scored 15 and Peterson 8 for Polk. The halftime score was 9 to 6 for High Prairie and Polk surged only in the final period.

The Commercial Club will convene Monday evening March 13 at Schultz Cafe. Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Co. will present an educational program with moving pictures. Edwin C. Burr of Central City, former club president and editor of the Central City Nonpareil, will be the guest speaker.
Polk Swedes beat Central College 42 39 on March 6 at home. D Peterson 19 points and M Peterson 12 led Polk while Hilligas scored 18 for Central. Swedes advance to the Shelby tournament next week.
The Stand Bearers Society of the M E Church hosted their mothers in church parlors after a Monday evening meeting. A brief program followed with a Doris McCoy solo a playlet and a reading by Welcome Wilits. Refreshments were served. Martha Johnson News Reporter
In Stromsburg during the Class B district tourney on March 2 3 and 4 Polk high fell to Rising City 21 to 29 after leading 9 4 early and tying 13 at halftime. Rising City moved ahead 19 17 after three quarters and widened the gap to 29 21 in the final period. Henderson beat Stromsburg in the finals earning the district bid to Lincoln for the state tournament this week.
Main Street correspondent recalls returning to Polk the friendly city and urges neighborliness. Poem-style reminiscence contrasts a noisy race track life with a peaceful home by a blooming garden and a river, ending with a vow to live close to friends and nature.
The Women's Foreign Missionary Society held its Founders Day meeting in the Methodist church parlors to honor 70 years of service. Mrs. Lawrence Sundberg led the program as a decorative seven candle birthday cake symbolized the seven goals, followed by a progress play. Mrs. E E Pengelly led devotions and hostesses served lunch.
About seventy attended the Community Supper at Swede Plain church Friday evening. Extension Service official Newton W. Gaines of the University spoke. Visitors from Friend and Osceola plus Stouffer family members stopped by. Relatives learned John Heiden of Fort Collins was hospitalized last week for a serious illness. York visitors included Mrs. E A Flodman and Virgil Fredrickson and others.
Mr and Mrs Charles F Lindgren celebrated fifty years of marriage at Hordville on Friday with a church reception hosted by the Fridhem Lutheran Church. The couple, married March 3 1889 in the home of John and Mrs Carlson near Osceola, reside in Hordville since 1913. A large local gathering with songs readings and tributes noted their life together including fostering Russell Lindgren and siblings.
Polk County farmers will soon get a well illustrated circular detailing the 1939 state wide Pasture-Forage-Livestock Program. The plan expands to include demonstrations in sorghum tests feeding and grazing, hogging off and grass plots, with about 25 local cooperators. Special schools run by Walter Berck and Howard Peterson will cover roughage use and feed planning at High Prairie, Victor, Ball, and Court House venues across March.
