Brucellosis Poses Occupational Risk to Farm Workers
A joint survey by the U S public health service and Indiana health officials finds brucellosis an occupational hazard for farmers veterinarians packinghouse workers and rendering plant employees exposed via contact with infected animals. Blood tests on over 600 veterinarians over three years show up to 25 percent exposure with higher rates among those in frequent contact.
