Polk was visited by rain sleet and snow over the weekend causing ice on roads and downed telephone lines. Travel was dangerous and many residents lost electricity from 8 a m to 6 p m though no severe suffering was reported.

Korean Film Planned at Polk Evangelical Free Church

A special 7 30 p m Thursday showing of 38th Parallel will screen at Polk’s Evangelical Free Church. Bob Pierce’s color sound documentary depicts Korea and UN actions with large crowds featured in Taegu and Seoul. Albert Nordine of Youth for Christ will introduce the film and lead the musical rally.

Polk High School basketball earns a regional playoff victory at Aurora to secure a state tournament trip. Senior led team, with Gaylen Holmes scoring 20 and Jack Myers 15, defeats McCool Junction 47 to 43 in a tightly contested semifinal and Fairmont 47 to 44 in another close regional final.

Olive Mabel Rolf obituary chronicles long Colorado life

Olive Mabel Lewis born November 28 1878 near Clarks Nebraska died March 7 1951 at 72. Arthur Rolf husband died 1925 in Denver. Survived by children Harry Albert Esther Phyllis Van Doren Walter Philip and Alta Martha Coolidge with six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She homesteaded in northeast Colorado in 1909 and did nursing in Denver. She was sister of Col. W B Lewis and cousin of Charles Wright and Will Wright. Funeral attended by relatives from several towns.

Former Polk resident dies at Grand Island funeral services

Albert Johnson, a former Polk resident, died Sunday evening at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Grand Island. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 PM at Brauer Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Walker officiating. Burial followed in Swede Plain cemetery. Guests noted include Mr and Mrs WF Smith of Guernsey Wyoming and Mrs R Peterson of Osceo 2.

Final Practice Sunday for Community Chorus

Despite sleet and power outages nearly all voices attended the Community Choir rehearsal at the Evangelical Free Church auditorium. The final practice is set for next Sunday at 2:30 pm at the auditorium ahead of the Palm Sunday concert expected to draw a large crowd.
