Axel Carl Jones born Stockholm Sweden November 20 1869 died February 25 1936 at his Polk Nebraska home aged 66 years three months five days He came to America in 1882 and lived in York Nebraska before settling near Polk He worked on farms then wrote insurance He married Nettie Charlotte Miller March 4 1894 and had four sons Carl Martin Oscar and Calmar and two daughters Mrs Clara Anderson and Mrs Martha Yo he was baptized January 27 1911 into First Baptist Church of Polk He served as trustee treasurer Sunday school teacher and loyal member He is survived by wife four children and many relatives and friends
At Stromaburg city hall Friday night the Polk County Better Roads Association formed its organization. Officers elected: Louis A. Hastert President Arnold Isaacson Vice President Clyde Smith Treasurer A E Bodine Secretary The group is sponsored by Polk County’s four Community Clubs The aim is to secure Polk County’s fair share of road building with the slogan United We Stand, divided we fall.
Miss Doris Hever daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Huber of York married Allen Anderson son of Mr and Mrs Fred A Anderson of Stromsburg area on Sunday at York Presbyterian parsonage. Anderson a Stromsburg fish school alumnus and young farmer and the couple will reside on a farm northwest of Stromsburg.

The Women’s Club met at Mrs. Henry Horstman’s home for a 1 PM covered dish lunch on Tuesday March 3. Guest of honor was Mrs. Orlie Adelson of Clarks. Fourteen members attended. Mrs. Albert Sundberg resigned as president and Mrs. Howard Herbes was elected to succeed her. Officers reelected were Mrs. R. L. Clinton vice president Mrs. Paul Strand secretary and Mrs. Dean Nelson treasurer. Mrs. Dexter Haws was chosen Publicity Editor. The program, led by Mrs. Clinton, covered Indians with readings by Mrs. Nelson and songs by Mrs. Arnold Isaacson. A gift to the guest followed and luncheon was served.
Funeral services for Mrs F A Hultgren were conducted Sunday at the M E Church in Stromsburg with Interment in Hoffer Cemetery. She died February 27 at her home two miles east of Stromsburg after a prolonged illness. Surviving are husband F A Hultgren three sons and two daughters Carroll Osceola Kermit Stromsburg Howard Minnesota Mrs Earl Cole Lincoln and Beatrice Hultgren at home.
Mrs W S Wells and Mrs Viola Jornish hosted the Bide a Wee Club with Mrs J Hotchkiss as guest. Officers elected include Mrs T A Reece president and Mrs Russell Snygg secretary treasurer. Mr and Mrs Elswood Sandell moved Monday to the Sandell property in South Park recently vacated by the Fitch Benjamin family. Mr and Mrs Hugh Turner moved into the Jim Nelson property and the Benjamin family now occupy the Turner vacated home. Mr and Mrs Emory Cramer announce the arrival of a 712 pound baby boy Sunday morning March 1st.
In a comeback at the local high school gym on Wednesday night the business men edged the Teachers and Preachers 17 to 16. Crowds packed the arena as both sides vowed a rematch later this month with full details to follow next week.

Mrs. Paul Strand hosted a quilting bee Wednesday. Mr and Mrs Henry Toews move to Henderson for their future home. Walter Kupke and family welcome Walter Louis Jr born near Hardvilla. Miss Milfred McDaniel hosted ten girls for an informal Monopoly evening followed by a party.
Neighbors and relatives gather for farewells as the Crouse family moves to Newman Grove to run a hardware store. Teachers and family members visit in Hastings Shelton Genoa Grand Island and Columbus while others travel to collect relatives and convalesce.
A group of ladies surprised Mrs Ralph Branting on Tuesday afternoon for her birthday and anniversary. Guests brought and served luncheon and a decorated angel food cake as a centerpiece. Mary Charlotte Groman Anderson, born February 26 1869 in Kopparbergs Sweden, died February 24 1936 at Baker Hospital Muscatine Iowa age 66 years 11 months 28 days. She came to America March 14 1883, lived at Clark until marriage March 31 1886 to Edward Anderson. She joined Lutheran faith baptized as child, later Lutheran and Free Baptist churches. Survived by husband eight children two sisters one brother sixteen grandchildren one great grandchild and many relatives and friends. Funeral services led by Rev Peter son and Rev Pengelly at the Methodist Church. interment Swede Cemetery. large attendance and floral tributes. Nordstrom cleaners installed a new boiler at Cen tral City laundry.
