Seven story Main St construction begins in town

The town observes Glen Polking’s seven story high rise rising on Main St replacing Hill’s Produce with an office and warehouse. Polk High To Host State Class D Regional Tournament

Polk High will host a Class D State Regional basketball tournament on March 2 and 3 with Waco Spalding Academy Rising City and Cairo. Waco and Spalding meet March 2 at 6 30 p.m. Rising City and Cairo play at 8 p.m. Winners face off March 3 at 7 30 p.m. Admission is 1.00 for adults and 50 cents for students.

Rural March Of Dimes Drive Nets $148 20

Rural East and West Pleasant Home Precincts report a March of Dimes drive sum of 148.20 raised from 134 contacted homes in 63 sections. The effort included a 5 gift from the American Legion Auxiliary with volunteers led by Mrs. Coover, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Larson, Mrs. Peterson, and others. Dewey Sigler and Mrs. Irvin Anderson thank contributors and volunteers for their support.

Joy Lynn Blase Weds Jack H Legg in Kansas Ceremony

Miss Joy Lynn Blase and Mr. Jack H Legg exchanged vows February 6 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Olathe Kansas. Officiant Rev Warren Naegle presided. The couple, of Verdunville WV, will reside in Olathe with the bride’s parents Virgil and Mrs Blase attending. The groom serves with the Air Force at Olathe Naval Air Station.

Country Woman's Club Meeting At Widga Home

The Country Woman's Club met Thursday afternoon at Mrs. Richard Widga's home with twelve members and one visitor present. Members prepared favors for Osceola hospital and enjoyed a social afternoon followed by lunch served by Mrs. Widga. The March meeting will be with Mrs. Clem Meerkatz.

The Polk Woman's Club reports a total of 163.25 raised for the March of Dimes. Contributions came from homes, area businesses, schools, and other organizations. Mrs. Verland Widga expresses thanks to all for efforts and donations.

Few Voters Attend Caucus for School and Village

Attendance was light at a school and village caucus to name candidates for boards. School terms expire for Dalel Lindburg and Robert Willits, who did not seek re election. Ballot names: Dale Lindburg Wayne Ramsey Roland Bodine Dean Myers. Village caucus followed with 27 voters. terms expire for Ed Saylor and Dean Myers next May. Linsay Darnell Named Polk's New Barber

Linsay Darnell of Clarks will become Polk's barber after March 15 when Milton Enévoldsen retires from the lease. Darnell has just completed his apprenticeship and, with his wife, plans to move to Polk in the near future.

Faithful Workers Meet With Mrs Esther Larson

The Faithful Workers club met Wednesday February 22 with Mrs. Esther Larson. Mrs Geraldine Kealiher assumed the president duties for Mrs Lackey. Fifteen members and one visitor attended. Hostess gift went to Margaret Brockevelt. Della Hoffman led the program and Marie Carlson the specialty. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Esther Larson and Margaret Brockevelt.

Home Society Hosts Annual Card Party

The Home Society club held its annual card party at the Community Hall on Saturday evening February 18. Thirty eight players enjoyed 10 point pitch with prizes awarded to Mary Monson Ivan Johnson Don Lindholm and Glen Babcock. Jim Brazda Sr won the traveling prize. A lunch of sandwiches pie and coffee was served.
