Cubs Win and Lose During Past Week

The Polk High Cubs lost 71-66 to Waco on Tuesday with Dick Sealey scoring 24 and 11 assists while Wayne Heiden Steve Saylor and Steve Carlstrom reached double figures. They then beat Nebraska Christian High 76-75 led by Norm Reckner with 24 points and 21 rebounds. On February 21 they fell 68-66 to St Edward in the state district Class C tournament at Central City.

Polk Woman's Club Hosts Meeting With Fashion Show

The Polk Woman's Club met at Mrs. Clifford M. Had ley's home with co host Mrs Paul Strand. President Janice Widge reported March of Dimes drive complete and funds turned in. The program featured Social Life with Fashion Show led by Bertha Brazda and Jo Strand.

Swede Plain MYF Meets In Church Program

The Swede Plain MYF gathered Tuesday February 7 with President Susan Garner opening the business meeting. Minutes approved. Program began with singing In The Temple. Marjorie Ehn read scripture and led prayer. Maxine Garner gave an inspirational message First Things First. Program closed with God Knows What Is Best For You. Two Bible games were played and a lunch was served by Mrs. Doremus and Mrs. Lindgren. Joyce Widga, Reporter.

Shower Honors Bonnie Carlson at Home

A miscellaneous shower was given for Miss Bonnie Carlson at the home of Mrs Harold Carlson on Sunday afternoon February 19. Polk Public Schools reach all time high enrollment

The Friedreksen family moved onto the former Burgess farm south of Polk and seven children joined Polk Schools this week. The district reports 203 in K-8 and 308 total students, an all time high.

A series of social visits and gatherings highlighted the week. Heidi Harrington stayed as a day guest with Jane Kealther while Mrs. Fisher hosted relatives including Mr and Mrs Robert Vandegrift for the Vandegrift 25th wedding anniversary. Other visits included Osceola residents Levert Oquist Danny and the Stevens family, Shenk and Stevens at Earl Stevens home after a basketball game, Anna Wurtz at Oscar Jones home, Lyle Johnson with the Hanson family, Lowell Bills with Martin Hoffman Jr family, Garden Club meet at Willis Akerson’s in Aurora, and Kenneth Werner’s supper guests Glen Brazda and girls. Eighty Attend Dinner With Dr Maly on South America

The Polk Commercial Club held its annual dinner for wives and guests with about 80 attending. Dr James Maly of Fullerton shared experiences from South America including a crash landing in the Brazilian jungle and insights on Brazil’s potential and the idea of an integrated race.

Married Partners Hoffman and Henderson Wed in Polk County

Marie Hoffman of Polk and Willard Henderson of David City were married February 7 at David City. Ralph Davidson accompanied them. After a weeklong trip the couple returned and reside on a Polk County farm southeast of Polk.

Polk to Host Class D Play-Offs in March

Polk will host a Class D Regional play-off on March 2 and 3 with winners from Districts 13, 14, 15, and 16. First-night games start at 6 30 and 8 00 p m and the March 3 final at 7 30 p m. Admission is 50 cents for students and 1 dollar for adults.
