Alfred A Gustafson born in Sweden and living near Polk Nebraska since youth toiled as a hired man in Illinois before settling six miles northwest of Polk. Married 1886 to Ida Christine Johnson they built a one room home on an unfenced farm. He survived floods droughts and grasshoppers with five Nebraska residing children and a long life of pioneer hardship.

The District Black and White show may be held in Polk County at the Fairgrounds in May. An invitation to hold the 12 county show May 5 at the Fair grounds was extended Monday to Paul Swanson of the Holstein Association. The Sixth District includes 12 central Nebraska counties and the event aims to showcase dairy entries.
