The PMA office has mailed 1950 corn allotment notices to farmers and landlords in the county. The allotment equals the county 20 percent cut from the average of 1947 1948 and 1949 corn acres per farm. Contact the office if an allotment is missing and note moisture rules for 1950 loan eligibility take effect April 1 1950.

The Polk community and the WCTU sponsor a stamp collecting drive for the Packet Testament League. Mrs. Chas. Whittemore sorts and sends stamps to needy people, with mailed stamps used to fund testaments. General MacArthur asked for 10 million testaments to Japan.
Mrs Ivan Cramer hosted a Stanley party on Thursday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Harlan Anderson of Hampton dined with Mr and Mrs Robert Steenbeck on Sunday. Neal Sandell was taken to Osceola hospital on Saturday for observation.
A severe blizzard in Nebraska forces The Progress to print with missing local correspondence and items. Transportation collapse and wind near tornado velocity hindered travel, damaged buildings, and caused numerous accidents with very low visibility.
Mrs. Emory C. E. Cramer entertained seventh and eighth graders Wednesday afternoon for Larry’s 14th birthday. Games were played and Larry received gifts from schoolmates. Lunch was served at the close of the party. Will Green is seriously ill at Stromsburg hospital after a stroke last week.
The estate sale of the late Gilbert and Viola Benson was cancelled Tuesday due to a blizzard. It is rescheduled for Monday March 13 with the same items, terms, and starting time. See the ad elsewhere in this issue for the complete listing.
The community choir plans to meet at the high school Sunday at 2 30 PM if weather is favorable. If not, members will gather at the Baptist Church for the session.
Saturday evening a birthday party was hosted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Gustafson in honor of Mrs. Ralph Branting. Mrs. Branting received many gifts and a delicious lunch was served at a late hour.
A large turnout filled the Methodist church parlors as the Woman's Society of Christian Service met in March. Speakers included Mrs. C. J. McCoy Mrs. Mervin Samuels and Mrs. Ollie Johnson with Miss Phyllis Behrns sharing experiences in Japan China and Korea from her travels. Musical numbers highlighted the afternoon. A lunch was served by local members.
Dwight Assumption swept the District Class C tournament in Osceola posting a 57-22 win over Osceola in the opening game and a 43-27 championship victory over Genoa. They defeated Polk 46-31 in the semifinal and 41-27 in a later round while Genoa beat Stromsburg and Polk beat Shelby in early results. Consolation saw Clarks edge Polk 44-43.
Miss Mildred Tlamka daughter of Louis Tlamka and Conrad Olson son of Olga Olson were wed in Columbus on February 14 1950. Weekend visitors included Gladys Woodworth from Lincoln and Ella Rudy from Grand Island. The social notes mention visits between local families and a baptism at home for Demaris Johnson with sponsors Ervin Blase and Max Jones.
