Gwendolyn Fillman Honored at Pleasant Homemakers Tea

Miss Gwendolyn Fillman of York was the honor guest at a Pleasant Homemakers 4-H Club tea in the Methodist church parlors. About 60 people attended as Home Agent Margaret Crosby and the Sunny Sues 4-H Club joined, with Marilyn Hahn presenting a token of appreciation.

Community Guests Fill Weekend in Arborville Area

Local families and relatives gathered across Arborville and nearby towns for social visits and family celebrations. Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Rust hosted a Mother-Daughter Tea at Harmony Church, while many relatives joined Sunday picnics and birthday remembrances for Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Peterson and others in the area.

Mamie Ziegelbein Dies at York Veterans Hospital

Miss Mamie Ziegelbein 62 of York died last week at the Lincoln Veterans hospital after a five year decline in health. A trained nurse, she served at Camp Funston during World War I and lived in York since 1915. Survived by father Henry Ziegelbein, two sisters Mrs Wunderlich and Mrs Pyne, and three brothers William Arthur Edgar. Funeral at Metz chapel then Emmanuel Lutheran church with burial at Emmanuel Lutheran cemetery in Polk.

District 38 Housewarming Honors Two New Families

A large group of about 25 families attended a housewarming for Mr. and Mrs. E R Cuda on Sunday evening. The event also honored Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Jisa who recently joined the district. Child Bitten by Dog Hospitalized After Attack

Four year old Karen Stevens, daughter of Mr and Mrs Arlo Stevens, was bitten by a dog while visiting grandparents. The dog had been tied up due to aggression and jumped on Karen. She required seven stitches for a facial gash and suffered additional bites to the face and stomach.

Social visits and baptisms across Stromsburg and nearby towns

Mrs. Clarence Munn and child ren of Central City and her mother visited Stromsburg in the Glatter home. Various families traced visits to Clarks, York, Hastings, and Omaha with baptisms at Arborville Church and hospital care in Omaha. The Ramseys returned home to Republic Kansas after a week with Hugh Ramsey and family.

Polk County 4-H girls and leaders prepare for Judging Day in Columbus. The Polk County Womans Council met June 24 to review 1950 project work and select items for State presentation. Wheat meeting reports strong turnout, seed quality concerns, and the need for better threshed yield tests and storage awareness.

Tri-County Endeavor Meeting Praised At Osceola High

The Tri-County Christian Youth Mass Meeting at Osceola High School highlighted by Dr. Earle W. Wiltse speaking to groups from Polk Merrick and York counties. Sacred concert by the Central City band and faculty solos accompanied by Moran Grosshans and Eugene Knepper added to the event. Plans include sending a delegate to the World Christian Endeavor Convention in Toronto and an outdoor summer meeting with next year’s mass gathering planned for Central City.

Farmers urged to watch for grasshoppers and clean seed

Virginia Morris Weds Rev Charles Snyder

The marriage of Rev. Charles Snyder, pastor of the Free Methodist Church in Polk, to Miss Virginia Morris occurred Wednesday evening, June 15, at the Free Pentecost Church on Nebraska Street. Attendees from this area included Mr. and Mrs. Walter Binford, Mrs. Ellen Tinker, and Ira Spear. A good used car was given as a wedding present by church members and friends of the couple.

Sunny Sue 4 H Club Forms Name Change

The Happy Home Makers 4 H Club renamed itself The Sunny Sue due to a prior club with the original name. On June 21 eleven members attended with four visitors. After the business meeting members sewed kerchiefs and judged pin cushions while three songs were sung and games played. Lunch was served. next meeting is July 5 at Joyce Stevens’ home.

The County Locals of the Farmers Union held their quarterly meeting in the Swede Home church basement Monday evening with good attendance.
