Minister E E Pengelly will lead worship at 10:00 with Sunday School at 11:00. Church members expect a larger morning attendance and invite Swede Plain residents to Sunday evening services in the Park. Quarterly Conference and annual conference are approaching.
Regular services at the SM. Lutheran Church led by Pastor Carl F Juergensen with 10 30 A M worship and 2 00 P M quarterly meeting. Methodist Church under E Pengelly hosts Sunday School 10 A M worship 11 A M and 7 30 P M evening service as annual conference nears. Sunday morning topic What Shall the Harvest Be. Tuesday evening services encouraged. Sunday evening Park Services begin this week.
The Free Methodist Church invites the town to a series of revival services led by Rev. Albert F. Faust with daily 8 PM sermons. Evening worship at 11 AM for the Free Mission Church features Pastor Paul E. Carlson and Union Park services begin Sunday at 8 PM with Percy Carlson of Seattle as guest speaker.
The First Baptist Church announces union services in City Park Sunday evenings starting this week. Sr BYPU meets 7 15 p m in the church east room each Sunday through summer. Guild Girls gather July 7 at the Alfred home with Lillie Lind leading and Myra Mae and Betty assisting. Attend Lord's Supper at Sunday morning service.
Florence Anderson visited Omha relatives. Dr. and Mrs. Sandahl plus Dorothy were guests of Rev. and Mrs. Sward. Monson and Fredrickson families visited in Lincoln and Polk areas. Ansel Fredrickson hosted a Sunday dinner for Faye Beardsley and Roger Headley family. T C W Club to meet with Mrs. Walter Jones. Confirmation class set for Thursday and Saturday. Dorothy Lindblade, Luther League delegate, dined with cousin Vivian Larson.
Businessmen urged to move cars off main street on concert evenings to free parking for attendees and their families. The note says it is a suggestion, not an official order, and cites neighboring cities as examples.
The fourth annual Nelson family reunion gathered June 26 at Polk City Park with 81 attendees for a picnic dinner and an afternoon business session. Officers for the coming year were elected: Richard Nelson president and Mrs. Ruben Jones secretary treasurer, with guests from Stromsburg Columbus and surrounding towns.
Miss Mary G. Burke of Stromsburg and Ernest A. Salchow of Anchorville were married last Sunday June 26 at 2 30 pm in the Methodist parsonage with Rev E B Pengelly officiating. Burke, a Polk High School 1928 graduate, has taught in Polk and York counties. The couple will reside on a farm near Arborville where the groom farms.
Grand Island locals announce Dr. O C Kroger, son of Judge and Mrs E G Kroger, will locate in Centralia Washington after completing an internship at Providence Hospital Seattle. The Kroger family is well known in town. Judge Kroger is Will Kroger's brother.
Philip Nyberg will associate with Phil B. Campbell in Osceola to practice law starting July 1 after passing the bar. Nyberg, a Polk County native and former abstract business associate of Campbell, is the son of Olof Nyberg. The report also covers local injuries, family travels, religious and educational events, and a marriage license issued to Ernest Salchow Arborville and Mary G. Burke Stromsburg.
Arborville residents and guests are listed from Lincoln to York and Unadilla visiting relatives and attending dinners and picnics. Included are multiple family gatherings at Whittemore and Bowers homes, church youth party, and a birthday celebration for Owen Bedient. Troop 152 hosts Meridian District Camp-O-Ree with 81 scouts from six troops at a permanent Blue on the August John so farm near Polk County seat. Osceola Troop tops ranking among 65 troops. Delmar McFadden praised for leadership. 17 swimming events yield 10 firsts 4 seconds and 1 third. overall praise for site and community support. Walter R. Raecke Grand Master of Masons of Nebraska received a reception at Central City last Friday. Five Past Grand Masters and most current grand lodge officers attended with visiting Masons from about fifteen lodges. Raecke was gifted a gold watch chain and charm from Central City Masonic bodies. Polk attendees included Leroy Nelson I. T. Samuelson N. E. McNeely Theo. Larson and W. A. Wurtz.
County 4-H youths and families swapped dreary weather for a day of softball, games, and a park lunch at Osceola park. Elmer Tooker's and Arthur Deeter's clubs won morning games. Victor club clinched the final against Tooker's team as High Prairie beat Victor for the girls title. The 44H clubs enjoyed free swims and ice cream served by Osceola’s park board, with thanks to local Farm Bureau and organizers Gordon Fredrickson Dwight Newcomer Rex Brigham Grace Lane.
G. E. Ekstrand reports 150 customers connected with lines expanding daily. The team tests voltage before energizing, noting 119 to 138 volts and potential kilowatt savings. Farmers are urged to wire homes promptly and ensure wiring is up to standard to avoid being skipped during connections. emphasize safety around live lines and the benefits for farm families.
Mr and Mrs C R Lindholm and family and Mrs B E Peters son and children of Omaha spent Sunday evening at the Rudolph Appleton home near Swede Home.
Across the county the grain crop ripens in warm weather. Farmers expect binders this weekend with combines likely next week. Wheat yields look better, oats and barley are exceptional, corn moisture remains ample, and black rust reports remain few.
The High Prairie Meat Production Club met at Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Carlson's home on Monday evening June 20. Members judged a 4 H Calf, played games, and one member was absent. A luncheon was served and a brief business session held. Members traveled to David City June 17 for a judging contest and attended the Osceola 4 H Club picnic June 22. All reported an excellent time. Next meeting at Mrs. Joe Swanson's home.
Free Mission Church members and friends held a Sunday picnic at Polk City Park to honor Rev and Mrs Carlson and their daughter who had just returned from the Evangelical Free Churches annual convention in Chicago. A noon dinner followed by social time and a short visit with relatives in Iowa marked the day.
