Methodist Church shows 10 a.m. Sunday School and 11 a.m. worship with evening service at 7:30 p.m. and a Harvest sermon. Free Methodist announces 10 a.m. Sunday School and 11 a.m. worship plus evening activities. First Baptist details BYPU and evening services with a Belgian Congo missionary visit and junior BYPU reorganization.

The Jolly Cookers 4 H Club elected officers at Darlene Wisely’s home. Margaret Hanson is president and Freda Buchholz is vice president, Opal Sargent secretary, Darlene Wisely news reporter, and Margaret Monkman song leader. Fourteen members attended and another meeting is set for Thursday at 2:00 at the Wisely home.
A Sunday picnic in City Park honored Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Rydson and their daughter of Brute Iowa. Attendees included multiple couples and families from Osceola St Paul Chicago Colorado and Hardville with names such as John son Johnson Floodman Flodman Fredrickson Sundberg Miller Nelson Richardson and Larson among others assembling for the event.
The Walther League met at the parochial school with 30 members. Mrs. Walter Kupke led a discussion on Church Periodicals. Officers installed for the year include Virgil Blase president Norman Keuper vice president Ardena Nierman secretary Meta Nierman Walter Kunke Christian Knowledge secretary Emalyne Deuker Christian Service secretary. Six new members joined, bringing total membership to a new level.
Everett Green son of Mr and Mrs Walter Green of this city and Miss Irene May of Whyes Center wed at Ogalalla on Saturday June 18. They drive to Greeley Colorado for summer school and plan to return to Hayes Center for the school year where both are employed. Green is newly elected superintendent.
The Stromsburg area hosts the Luther League Convention across Friday to Sunday. Local residents share visits and hospitality with friends and relatives from Colton Oregon Benedict Pilger and York while 4-H events take place at David City. Notable trips include Rev C J Renhard en route to Brooklyn for Synod and Delaware Swedish celebration plans. Cedric Anderson travels from Gimnerson to join family before heading to Ann Arbor for summer school.
The Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid held their annual family picnic at the city park with a noon basket dinner and games. Prizes were awarded, then the group moved to the Carl Dose lawn for a Synodical Sunday Services radio broadcast from St. Louis, featuring Rev. J. W. Bersken delivering the sermon.
The American Legion Auxiliary met on Monday afternoon June 20 at Mrs. John Gestrings country home. Fifteen members attended and reports from committees were given. Officers elected for the new year include President Arnold Isaacson and Vice President C. R. Peterson. Delegates to the State Convention at Fremont on August 13 were Isaacson, Davis and Sundberg, with alternates Steelquist, Peterson and Nelson. A quilt sale and a picnic were planned. A two course luncheon was served.
Violet Biggs of Peoria visits Stromsburg relatives and returns home. California visitors included Mrs. Axel Severine and others who joined Mrs. N Abolt at Osceola hospital. Ed Dilsaver hosts a surprise lunch after a social evening. A long list of travelers and guests from Lincoln, North Platte, Knoxville, Benedict, Omaha, Polk, and Ulysses are noted with short visits and trips to Sidney Hastings Genoa and Lincoln. Family hosting, dinners, and weekend visits recur across Stromsburg area.
Osceola area notices include Mrs Carleton Anderson hosting Jackie Andersons first birthday with family from Stromsburg and others. Merle Tharft suffers a broken jaw after a ball collision, with jaw wired for about a month. Norton children return from Scottsbluff visit to Osceola. Various residents make business and social visits, trips, and examinations around Lincoln and Mitchell South Dakota.
A local society column records a miscellaneous shower for Miss Helen Swan and Leo Shefcyk who wed on June 21, with dancing and a lunch. Oscar Fedde returns to Denver with family after a visit. The city plans to demolish a south Osceola house to reuse lumber for a community cabin at the park. Eastern Star Kensington hosted by Mrs S W Calhoun and others at the Dav id Timm home.
Leo and Charles Laska sue the Order of Franciscan Fathers of Green Bay Wisconsin in federal court seeking return of property valued at 35000 dollars allegedly conveyed while their mother Scholastica Laska was ill and incompetent before her 1935 death. The complaint claims a Catholic missionary and another priest influenced transfers in 1930 and afterward.
Farmers will view eight oat varieties in a test plot at the Lloyd Steadway farm seven miles east and two to four miles north of Osceola. The 4 H club led by Frank Bard sponsors the trial with varieties Brunker Fulghum In gold Kanata Burt 518 Nebraska 21 Winter Oats and a Walford E Nelson entry. Ed Doll of the Agricultural College will discuss the test Thursday June 30 at 7 p m. Harvest will follow for yield analysis at the college.
Flora Mickey widow of former Governor John H. Mickey died unexpectedly at Fairbury hospital on June 16 after several days illness. Born near Fontanelle in 1861, she moved to Nebraska in 1869 and lived in Fairbury ten years. Survived by a son, two daughters, two brothers and a sister Mary Pyle of Lincoln, nine grandchildren. Services held at Nazarene church in Fairbury with Rev. L A Ogden. burial in Osceola Cemetery.
Mrs. F. L. Harris 52 dies instantly when struck by a westbound Union Pacific streamlined train near her home in Silver Creek. Authorities say she wandered into the path during a lapse of memory. She recently spent months in a Lincoln hospital. her husband, a Methodist minister, and seven children survive.
Mrs Fritzell will speak from the pulpit of the Baptist Church in Polk on Sunday at 8 PM. She is the widow of the former pastor of the Hordville church and recently returned from a missionary assignment in Africa where her husband died of a deadly disease.
Miss Myra Fredrickson and Myron Johnson were married at the Swede Home Parsonage Sunday morning at 8:00 by Rev. C. A. Sward. A wedding breakfast followed at the bride’s mother’s home. The couple plan a weeklong honeymoon in Colorado and will live in Osceola where the groom works at the Farm Bureau office.
Reuben Johnson, a former Osceola resident, has been elected to membership in the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa at the University of Southern California. Phi Delta Kappa is an honorary professional fraternity with chapters at 48 leading universities and more than 22,000 members.
York and Stromsburg will see regrading and paving on U S Highway 81 this fall with work starting near York at the intersection of highways 2 and 34. A new bituminous mat and wider right of way to 80 feet are planned with a fall start and completion next spring depending on weather.
Dr F K Karrer of Benedict celebrates a family medical lineage with his fourth son graduating from the University of Nebraska. The elder son Dr F M Karrer led the Phi Rho Sigma chapter in Omaha while practicing in Palisade. Max R Karrer diverged to chemistry, now a chemist in Akron. Dr R E Karrer, class of 1936, joined Phi Beta Chi and AOA and works with Drs Bell in York. The fourth, Dr R W Karrer, class of 1938, interns at Immanuel Hospital Omaha.
