Pastor E E Pengelly invites all to Sunday worship on July 2 with morning and evening services. Union Evening Service is held at the church this Sunday. Quarterly Conference scheduled for Thursday July 20 with much to do before.
Nebraska farmers in Polk County and across the state may receive released funds from sales of government mortgaged grain to cover current harvest costs. Walter W. Berck states FSA will limit expenses, encourage cooperative work, and promote sound marketing plans. Buyers may need to verify mortgaged status, and checks may be made out to both borrower and FSA for safety.
The Polk County Fair announces premium books are ready. Contact Jay Hastings at his office or send a postal card to receive a mailed copy. Jay Hastings serves as Secretary.

Polk commercial club hosts open house at Claus Lindahl home. Mr and Mrs C E Lindahl celebrate 40th wedding anniversary with open house Sunday afternoon July 2 at their northwest Polk residence.
Mrs. and Mrs Cyril Sterner of near Bradshaw hosted a dinner Sunday honoring his parents Mr and Mrs Chas Sterner for their Golden Wedding Anniversary. About 60 neighbors and relatives attended open house with punch wafers and a short program. Gifts were presented to the honored couple.
The Baptist Mission Circle hosted a Friday afternoon community shower in the church parlors for Mr and Mrs Floyd Lyle and daughter after a fire ruined most of their clothing and some furniture last Sunday. Attendees shared fellowship and a pot luck lunch while giving bedding clothing and cash gifts.
The Four Leaf Clover Cooking Club gathered at Genevieve Schott’s home on June 20. Demonstrations were by Mary Rose Schott and Doris Hennings. All but two members attended the June 16 judging in David City. Irene Augustin spoke on judging. A lunch followed the business meeting. The next meeting is set for July 11 at Dorothy and Helen Mae Deeter’s home.
Polk leaves the Mid Nebraska League after a 7 to 3 loss to Platte Valley. The club will play as an independent squad rest of year with new players like Fredrickson and Saindon added to boost strength. Polk hosts Central City at 2:30 next Sunday and urges local support.
Mr and Mrs W E Ratliff honor their 25th anniversary with a Saturday gathering at home. Relatives from York Elmer Eberly Bradshaw Sumner Neb Will Eberly and Ernest Ratliff attend along with the Eberly and Albin families. A mock wedding provides the main entertainment. Refreshments follow as guests extend wishes for many more happy years.
Mrs Carrol Ericson hosted a kitchen shower for Miss Louise Jack on Tuesday afternoon June 20 with about 50 relatives and friends. Miss Jack received many gifts in black and white. A lunch was served. Mrs Orville Olmsted and child ren of Elliott Indiana attended as out of town guests. A second shower hosted by Mrs Olmsted was held at Gast Westlund home June 21 with about 25 guests and many gifts. Refreshments were served.
The High Prairie Homemakers met at Rose Mary Kahler's home on June 20. Mrs Ekstrom and Rena May Willits were absent while Irene Forss attended as a visitor. A lunch was served. The next meeting is set for Zoe Ann Samuelson's son's home on July 11.
From Shelby Nebraska to Camp Miniwanca Michigan Miss Betty McMeekin daughter of Mr and Mrs James McMeekin receives the Danforth Foundation FourSquare 4H state award. She will join 53 other state winners at American Youth Camp July 31 to August 13. The scholarship honors athletic, scholastic, leadership and character efforts and is valued at 43 dollars.
The Peterson family reunion met at Buckley Park Stromsburg on June 18 with 70 of 95 members present. Mrs. Arthur Ekstrom was reelected president and Lil Lie Chindgren secretary. refreshment committee named for next year. Several Carlson, Peterson and Anderson relatives attended. marriages and births since 1938 noted.
Miss Louise Jack daughter of Mr and Mrs C G Jack and Sherman Jones son of Clarence Jones of Moline Illinois were married at the bride’s home on Thursday June 22 at noon Rev Pengelly of the M E Church officiating. Doris McCoy sang I Love You Truly with piano by Iva Stevens. The bridal party stood as Lohengrin’s Wedding March played. The bride wore her mother’s silk lawn gown with lace and tucking, veil with lilies of the valley and myrtle wreath, and carried pink rosebuds delphiniums and bridal wreath. Leona Degner was maid of honor, Peggy Ann Sears flower girl, John Amsberry best man. A 1 pm dinner followed for 18 guests with pink and white decor and a two-tier cake. Relatives included Mr and Mrs L P Jones, Mr and Mrs Carroll Erickson, Mr and Mrs Alfred Gustafson, and Mrs Orville Olmsted. The couple will live in Grand Island where Mr Jones works at L B Furnace Co.
Paul Schneider of Pilger Nebraska serves as assistant County Extension Agent for Polk County in Howard L. Peterson's absence. He graduated from the College of Agriculture June 5 and arrived in Osceola June 8 to serve about six weeks, inviting farmers to discuss their problems.
Polk County crop insurance officials report a surge in wheat growers expecting losses under all risk policies. A pre-harvest inspection program led by Lynn Brigham coordinates field checks to ensure indemnification for eligible farmers. Of 479 insured growers, 400 have notified the county committee of anticipated losses and requested inspections.
The Bright Side 4H Club met at Marilyn Messing's home on June 14 led by president Verona Bernt. Visitors Dorothy Fozzard and Doris Jaax attended. Members read a long lesson, split it, and prepared two sewing related contests. A luncheon of ice cream cake and cola followed. The next meeting is set for June 28 at Mrs. G Augustin's home.
The West Side T C W club will meet Thursday June 29 with Mrs. Axel Anderson and serve a pot luck lunch. Junior Choir rehearses Thursday at 4 pm. Luther League to present a program Sunday evening. Visitors Thursday evening included Rev and Mrs Harry Lundberg of Protor VT. Dinner hosts were Mr and Mrs Russel Fjell for guests Mr and Mrs Dean Nelson Don al d of Denver, and Mrs Aug Nelson and Marjorie of Polk.
Seventeen year old Betty Leigh MicMeekin of Shelby earned three major state awards. The Nebraska Press Association named her best girl writer of 4 H club news, she won the American Legion Auxiliary essay contest, and she will attend a Michigan camp as state winner of the Danforth Foundation competition for four square 4 H club girls.
