Out of Old Nebraska in Early Mission Work
Rev. Samuel Parker, a Congregational missionary, traveled the Platte Valley in 1835 en route to Oregon to explore missions among Indians. His zeal followed a Christian Advocate report of four wise men seeking the white man’s religion for their people. Parker was initially rejected by the American Board due to age and health concerns.
