Shelby Woman Fatally Injured in Car Wreck

Miss Anna Mytholar, a Shelby teacher, was fatally injured when her car overturned east of Seward after passing a bus and sharp steering on reentry. She died Sunday morning after being treated at Lincoln General Hospital. Fellow passengers included her brother and his two daughters. Burial was held at U B Church in Shelby.

Graduates urged to obtain social security numbers

Lincoln field office manager Joseph Sewall urges new graduates to obtain social security numbers before seeking work to avoid delays. Those who never had cards or lost theirs should visit the 215 Post Office building office, open 9:00 to 5:06 Monday through Friday, or call 26414 for duplicates.

Archbishop of Sweden to visit Omaha for Pioneer Centennial

The Most Rev Erling Eidem Archbishop of Sweden arrives in Omaha June 18 as part of the royal delegation led by Prince Bertil to preside over the Swedish Pioneer Centennial June 19 20. Governor Val Peterson honorary chairman and W O Swanson lead the drive for Nebraskans of Swedish descent to attend Elmwood Park events with gymnastic and folk dance performances. More than 10000 people are expected.

Polk County Extension News Highlights State Meeting and Local Programs

The Nebraska State Council of Home Extension Clubs met in York June 9 to 11 with 650 attendees and 20 from Polk County. Highlights included talks by Anna Dee Weaver and Dr E L MacQuiddy, choruses from Dodge, Saunders and York, a 438-woman banquet, and a Polk County Chorus gathering. The report covers aphid control spray trials, DDT demonstrations on livestock, and ongoing 4-H building renovations plus the Polk County 4-H Saddle Club’s first meeting and current membership of 20.

Rainfall Boosts Crops After Dry Spell

Last Friday night 1.73 inches of rain fell, nearly two inches, easing crop worries. Corn shows strong growth while oats recover from dryness. Wheat improves after earlier setbacks, with farmers noting varied yields. Gardens and potatoes especially benefit from the moisture.

Marilyn Hahn entertained seven people including 4-H members at a Tuesday birthday party with a short business session led by president Shirley Stevens. Roll call listed each member's favorite cookie. Hahn reported on 4-H Club Week in Lincoln. Hahn and Anderson announced a prize for the first to finish a cooking project. After games, a weiner roast followed. Legion Team Edges David City 5-2 In Osceola Showdown

The Legion club defeated David City 5-2 on Sunday night at Osceola, matching their prior win. McCormick pitched a no hit no run game through six plus innings, guiding Osceola to a 2 0 league victory as power at the plate spurred a four run seventh inning.

Children Hurt In Friday Car Crash Near Bradshaw

Alfretta Bedient seven and her one year old brother Bruce were hospitalized with bruises and lacerations after a collision Friday afternoon on U S Highway 34 three miles east of Bradshaw. Their mother Mrs Fred Bedient driving a 1933 Ford also suffered a facial cut and was treated. The children were to be released from York General hospital Saturday.

Termers Union County Meet ing will be held at Osceola High School Auditorium Friday evening June 18th. A good program has been arranged. All members and friends are invited. Refreshments will be served.

4 Leaf Clover Club Plans Cooking Demonstrations

The 4 Leaf Clover Club focuses on cooking activities for the year with officers elected in March led by Virginia Harding as President Ira Mae Werner as Vice President Patricia Eisler as Secretary and Roberta Lea Carlson as News Reporter Members include Kathleen Harms Donna Monson Ira Mae Werner Patricia Kisler Leona Ratsloff and Mrs Jake Harding leads with Mrs Virgil Kisler as assistant. A May 28 meeting at Patricia Kisler’s home signed the canopy sheet and judged muffins. A June 12 gathering with Da Mae Werner judged cookies and chocolate pudding by Kisler Carlson and Munson. The group aims to complete requirements to begin demonstrations and posters.

A group of friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Dornburgh at their home on Sunday to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary. Cards were played with high score to Mr. and Mrs. Ansel Lindquist and low score to Harold Carlson and Mrs Lyle Dornburgh. Gifts were presented to the couple and to Mrs Dornburgh and birthday anniversaries for Mrs Harry Anderson and Mrs Harold Mueller noted that week. A lunch was served by the guests.

The Village Council and Chief of Police warn that firing firecrackers within Polk village limits is prohibited and violators will be arrested and prosecuted. Residents are urged to respect sick people in Polk. By order of village officials.
