Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Sarow hosted and visited with Adelson family Friday evening. Numerous residents, including the Johnsons and Olsons, hosted, visited, or attended events in town. 80 Youth Camp At Mission Grounds Hastings

Approximately 80 Hastings district youths attend a Methodist camp at Mission grounds led by Rev. L A Fistel with Rev R E Carlyn Rev Harry Gleim Rev L V Hassel Rev Alden Sears Rev Max Chrispher and Rev Harold Lansing directing classes on arts and crafts personal faith Bible mission and worship. Meals are provided by Polk Methodist ladies as the session runs through Sunday and shifts to a younger group June 28.

Polk County Extension News Highlights 1949 Wheat Plot and Fair Entries

Polk County extends efforts for a 1949 wheat test plot under the Better Crops program. Sacks for sample collection are available at the Extension office, with deadlines Aug 1 for Sorghums Sudan Grass Soybeans Alfalfa and Red Clover. The county also notes Midland Red Clover certification progress and multiple seedings and trials, including Nemaha Oat and Ran ger Alfalfa, to be showcased at the 1948 County Fair August 24-26. Tom Brigham of Shelby earns an eighth place with lambs at the Omaha Lamb and Wool show, securing top sale prices for his 16 lambs as a 4-H member in his eighth year.

Prenuptial Shower for Miss Elva Hemmingsen in Monroe

A prenuptial shower honored Miss Elva Hemmingsen of Marquette at Mrs. Grant Willits home in Monroe with yellow and white decor. Guests included distant relatives and friends from Marquette Aurora Osceola Silver Creek and Clarks as the event featured a gift-hunt note balloon cues and a scrapbook of the couple Dale Willits and Elva.

Harvest Starts in Polk County as Wheat Readies

Wheat harvest begins in Polk County with some fields cut this week. Estimates place ripening wheat for combines around mid next week as crews travel from northern Kansas. Corn and oats show progress as farmers prepare harvest plans and a local wheat price stands at $2.13 per bushel.

Farmers Union Locals Meet in Osceola

The Polk County Farmers Union Locals gathered in Osceola High School Auditorium on Friday June 18 with Edwin Hedlund presiding. A program featured Pleasant Corner quartet readings by Mrs Ruth Eklund a piano solo by Diana Buhl a Sweden film and a talk by Jacob Kupp on farm machinery followed by a business meeting. Lunch was served by the Osceola Local ladies.

Annual Stromberg Family Picnic Held in Stromsburg

The annual Stromberg picnic was held Sunday in Stromsburg at Scott's Hall due to rain with about 95 attendees. Guests included Mrs. Emily I Stromberg Worth Sr Oscar Stromberg and Chicago visitors Mr and Mrs Al Miller and Mrs Mae Childs. Monday marked the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Ben Stromberg with a mock wedding and a card shower for them.

Polk 4-H Leaders Attend District Judging School

Polk County 4-H members and leaders attended a district judging school in Columbus. Marilyn Hahn represented 34 Polk girls in interviews on air with Col umbus radio. A series of local events included a Four Leaf Clover Club weiner roast and a Father’s Day basket dinner, plus a notable wedding at the home of Mrs. Alice Butcher for Burtie Butcher and Howard L. Bush.
