Production is underway for the 1965 Polk County Fair Book. The premium list is largely set, with minor changes and a $2 contribution instead of previous ad solicitations. The book will be mailed with The Osceola Record the week of July 7 or 14 to all county residents.
Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Hospital installs Dataphone to transmit patient electrocardiograms by telephone to Creighton Cardiac Laboratory in Omaha. A cardiologist interprets in minutes, with 24 hour coverage and rapid reports to local physicians. The setup, tested in Spalding, promises earlier diagnoses and lives saved. Mail delivery schedules announced for Polk County starting June 26.
A group led by Mrs Emma Horstman and Mrs Oscar Sundberg departed by chartered bus from Lincoln on June 19 for a 15 day tour of New England and the World's Fair with stops in Cleveland Albany Niagara Falls and travels to Canada then back through Portland and New York City. They return July 1 via Boston with many sites planned.
A car driven by Mrs. Neal Sandell with her two children Kevin and Michael was struck by a hay sweep tractor at a county road intersection south of Polk. Sandell suffered multiple fractures and severe facial injuries while the children sustained leg fractures. They were rushed to York General Hospital by York's Rescue Unit. The mother is due to have a baby in September.
