Worship and sermon at 10:00 with Sunday School at 11:00 led by Minister Pengelly at Swede Plains M E Church. Lutheran Services next Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Juergensen. radio broadcast of Synodical Sunday Service from St. Louis at 3:30 p.m. on KFAB. Visitors welcome.
The church schedules Sunday School at 10 and Morning Worship at 11. Evening service is at 7 30 PM. No church services Sunday due to pastor and family attending a family reunion in Orleans. Sunday School will be held at the usual hour.

Union Pacific Railroad emerged as Polk County’s top tax payer for 1937, paying $13,844.82 to the county with about $488.69 per mile on the branch line. Roughly half of the tax revenue funded schools, while city, county and state functions shared the remainder, and Nebraska state taxes totaled $1,819,567.22 last year. The text notes that discontinuing many smaller branch lines could shift tax burdens onto other residents.
By popular demand the Polk High School Band of forty members will perform from the band stand on Wednesday evening June 22. Directed by Robert Strickland the group has grown into a fine ensemble and many players will soon join their fathers in the municipal band.
Nebraska reports wheat rust in many counties but Polk County remains relatively uninfested. No black stem rust is seen locally, and prospects are strong with harvest weeks away depending on weather. Corn growth also hinges on sunny conditions and timely warmth.

Two weeks after power began in Polk County, 75 farmers receive service as 12 customers per day are connected. Residents praise bright illumination surpassing kerosene lamps and note smoother electric motors, electric irons, and easier chores under well lit night skies. The spread is rapid with non-electrified homes becoming exceptions.
The sixth annual Peterson family reunion honored the late Mr. and Mrs. Peterson at Buckley Park on Sunday June 12 with a social hour and picnic supper. Mrs Arthur Ekstrom was re elected president and Lillian Chindgren secretary. Refreshment committee members were named as Mrs David Carlson Mrs Evald Pliefke Mrs Edgar Peterson and Mrs Petrus Nelson. Since 1937 two marriages and one birth occurred among 92 members. 67 attended and 25 were absent.
Polk county 4-H members and families will gather at Osceola Park on Wednesday June 22. A forenoon softball tournament leads to an afternoon final followed by swimming at the Osceola pool. Larry Peterson will lead afternoon games and Gordon Frederickson oversees arrangements with committees handling recreation and refreshments. Everyone brings their own dinner and dishes with coffee planned to be served.
The Jolly Workers 44H Cooking Club met on Thursday June 9 at leader Mrs Arvid Peterson's home. Three demonstrations covered Banana Cream Pie Cottage Cheese and Cheese Toast with samples served as refreshments prepared by Glenna Albert a Berek Alice Evelyn Anderson Phyllis Swanson and Mary Carlson.
Residents of Polk are invited to Ak-Sar-Ben’s big Den Show on Monday night June 20. Tickets are free for Polk residents and available from Howard Werbes, Ak-Sar-Ben ambassador. The show titled The White Spot will feature songs and laughs with guests from Fremont North Bend Schuyler Columbus St. Edward St. Paul Fullerton Ames Genoa Cedar Bluffs Bellwood Shelby Clarks Central City Grand Island Valparaiso David City Rising City Osceola Stromsburg Polk Brainard and Kearney. After the show out of town visitors attend a buffet supper and dance.
In Swedesburg Iowa on June 10, Naomi Elizabeth Sward and Orpha Eilen Sward, daughters of Rev C A Sward, wed Albert Tinberg of Sapreroenta California and Stanton Moore of Stromsburg Nebraska. The ceremonies featured attendants, a reception for 150, and plans for future residence in Marshalltown Iowa and Stromsburg Nebraska.
