Dorothy Sharp of Stromsburg attended 4 H Club Week in Lincoln as Polk County delegate and reported back to Farm Bureau members. A new Extension Club named Our Neighborhood Club formed with officers listed and plans to meet again in September at Mrs Harold Wilsons home.
County 4-H Demonstration Day for boys and girls will be held at the 4-H Building on the Fair Grounds on July 6.
Wm. Norton Jr. left June 14 for Milford Iowa to attend the National Red Cross Aquatic School and become a certified Red Cross Swim Instructor. He earned advanced swim and life saving certificates and will instruct at the Osceola Pool this summer with Stromsburg and Polk classes starting July 3 and July 17 respectively.
The Rural Radio Association holds a 8:00 PM meeting in Swanson's Hall Stromsburg on Friday night June 23. All county organizations and interested individuals are invited to attend and discuss the license application details with local boards and committees present.
The Polk and Swede Plain Methodist churches marked Methodist Student Day with three local students Arthur Bates Lois Johnson and Jeanene Lind participating in the service Jeanine Lind led the devotional prayer Lois Sundberg spoke on the history of Nebraska Wesleyan the only Methodist school in the state The trio plus Sundberg attend the college Arthur Bates described the college finances noting last year’s record graduating class of three hundred ninety two and a small deficit He urged more fundraising to sustain the school and mentioned teacher salaries including a PhD holder earning three thousand six hundred dollars annually Reverend Paul Walker praised Nebraska Wesleyan noting 14 of the 15 new ministers trained there this year and a special offering was taken for the Student Loan Fund.
Mrs Walter Fisher hosted the Arborville community club on Friday. Five members shared an afternoon of embroidery on pillow cases as the hostess chose the project and refreshments were served during the social hour.
Mrs Martin Hoffman Sr hosted Virginia Pierson and guests honoring Mr and Mrs H S Pierson of Marquette on their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. Attendees included the Larson and Shaw families, Martin Hoffman and family, and Jon as Skoglund of York. The couple received a silverware chest. a lunch followed with coffee and cake.
Arborville Shiners 4-H Club met at the Town Hall with presiding officers Alice Marie Janky and Kenneth Bowers. Minutes from May were read. The group discussed building a booth and float for the York County Fair. Members judged bread loaves with awards to Flick Jenky, Paden, and Shultz. boys did beef judging at John Skaden home. Social hour followed with Leand Bowers serving refreshments. A portion of members attended 4-H activities in York on Tuesday.
About thirty Kingston family members from Arcadia Julesburg and Grand Island gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schimelfenig’s Grand Island home for the annual reunion. Attendees from town included Mr. and Mrs. Hillis Sterner and family, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Peterson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Glasser Jr. and children, Frank Merchant, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Guidinger and Mary Jean. Roy Glasser Jr. also joined Wayne Lindholm on the outing.
The annual Stromberg Family Reunion was held Sunday at Scott's Hall in Stromsburg with 105 attendees for a buffet style picnic. The event marked 19 consecutive reunions, with Mrs. Oscar Stromberg of Chicago turning 88 this year and attending four reunions. Notable distant guests included families from Chicago Tacoma Park and Lincoln, as well as San Francisco Omaha and Culver City.
Mrs. Arthur Gustafson will hold an open house Thursday afternoon June 29 to celebrate her mother’s 90th birthday. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Orville Peterson of Denver vacationing with Velma Alvin and relatives in York. Cline of Aurora visited friends here. Berkley Burch of ONeill called on Bedient and Burgess homes. Salchow family and Carl from Omaha on business. Janky family spent Sunday with Carlson and Alfred Carlson. Norquest family of York visited Charles Norquest and family. Bryce stayed in the country. Bedient's week in Crete for Pilgrim Fellowship at Doane College. Roy Glasser Senior and Lloyd Van Hausen families at Sunday dinner. Schrader families visited Pete Schrader. Maynard Schrader evening calls. Hoffman Jr. announces birth of son Thomas Gene June 16 at Stromsburg hospital. Walter Fisher hosted brothers Semple of Palmer for dinner.
A band concert is listed for June 28 featuring a program with Blue Danube and Concert Waltz by Strauss as well as Alexander's Ragtime Band and Old Army Game. Items include Berlin Streamliner March and The Spartans March with titles such as Slippin' Around. About twenty five attendees heard the Polk Board of Trustees at the Fire Hall on Thursday evening June 15 consider and pass the proposed sewer system resolution with no petitions or remonstrances filed and no objections voiced.
Polk county land owner James Wilson, visiting on business, entertained relatives at the Glenn Hill home. Wilson spoke of world travels including a 1929 motorcycle trip with Francis Flood. He teaches at A and M College Ft Collins and writes articles for Geographic Magazine Farm Journal and Ford Magazine.
Emil E. Samuelson, prominent Polk farmer, died early Monday from a heart attack after attending church the previous evening. He was 68. Survivors include his wife, two sons, two daughters, several siblings, and in laws in Polk, Denver, and Holdrege Neb. A Sunday dinner gathering honored guests from Aurora York Hampton and York, and a newborn son Thomas Gene was welcomed Friday at Stromsburg hospital.

Miss Donna Sundberg daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O E Sundberg Polk and Gene W Bauer son of Mr. and Mrs L J Bauer Sutton were married Sunday June 18 at Polk Methodist Church. Rev Paul W Walker officiated before 175 guests with organistArthur G Bates. Numerous attendants wore pale gowns and carried floral bouquets. After a reception in the church parlors the couple planned a wedding trip to Minnesota and will reside in Sutton after June 27.
The High Prairie Alumni Picnic is rescheduled to Sunday evening June 25 at 6 o clock at Buckley Park.
Patty Williams of Lincoln spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Verne Williams.
The Nyberg family from Polk County notable for missionary service across the United States and abroad. Henry Nyberg ordained in 1941 pastored in Nebraska and served as an army chaplain in Europe. Helen Nyberg taught and worked as a missionary in Kentucky since 1941. Elaine Nyberg preached in Venezuela, with a 1947 furlough, others like Virgil Nyberg in Iowa and Esther Nyberg linked to Rev Lindquist and church leadership. They are praised as builders of God's Kingdom and active in church and community work.
Arborville Missionary and Aid Society wrapped up the year on Wednesday June 14 with Mrs John Wachner hosting at her home. Mrs Harold Bedient led the lesson What It Means to be a Church Woman and Mrs Arthur Shultz presided over business. Ten members answered roll call and reports from Friendly Service and Church World Mission Projects were given by Mrs Harvey Friesen. Officers for the new year begin September were elected: President Mrs Charles Burgess First Vice President Mrs Harold Bedient Second Vice President Mrs Theo Oke Secretary Mrs Ester Lackey Assistant Secretary Mrs Elwood Tewell Treasurer Mrs Leand Bowers Pianist Mrs John Wachner. The theme for the year is Thy Will to Do. A social and dessert luncheon followed.
The Woman's Christian Temperance Union held its June meeting in the Methodist church with Mrs. T. A. Stevens leading the program. The group presented "The Voice of the Farm" by Sheralee and Sondra Hill and Mary Lou and Carmen Sandell. Fifteen bouquets were delivered to shut-ins and sick folks.
Mrs Adolph Forse was honored Sunday at a birthday dinner hosted by her daughter Mrs Harvey Sundberg. Guests included Mr and Mrs Adolph Forse and Donald, Mr and Mrs John Johnson, Mr and Mrs Raymond Johnson and family, Marlow Johnson, Swede Home, Mr and Mrs Willard Adelson and Jimmie.
