Vacation Bible School Opens at Baptist Church

Daily Vacation Bible School started Tuesday morning at 9 o clock with cooperation from Baptist and Evangelical Free Churches. Forty seven children enrolled the first day and more join daily. Teachers include beginners Alice Bodine Ebba Hanquist Marilyn Olson and others. Elaine Nyberg is superintendent. Closing exercises set for Sunday night June 13 at 8.00. Local notices mention Dennis Hahn stationed in Corpus Christi Texas and various neighborhood visits and gatherings through mid June.

June 4-H and Agronomy events in Polk County

Polk County Extension previews June activities for 4-H judging day on June 21 in Columbus, 4-H Demonstration Day June 28 with added funds from Aksarben, and Agronomy Field Day June 17 at Ag College. The notice promotes project judging, demonstrations, awards, and youth opportunities including a Hollywood film talent search and awards for 4-H clubs leading to the county fair August 24-26.

Dr Austin H Smith from St Paul opens offices in Polk at the hotel. He is married with daughter Margaret seven. A U Nebraska Medical School graduate served four years in the US Army and interned at St Luke's Denver. The Smiths reside temporarily with George Wurtz, and the town wishes them success.

Mrs. Chas. McGinnis Buried Friday

Emma A Rolls born June 16 1871 in Shaw Station Nebraska died June 1 1948 after a six week illness. She married Charles S McGinnis January 15 1893 in Arborville later moved to Lincoln Polk County and then to Arborville community. She was active in Congregational and Methodist churches and survived by husband three grandchildren four great grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral held Friday at Methodist Church.
