Polk and York Counties Merge District 72 in Redistricting

Osceola heard Miss Olive McBeth declare the redistricting legal as District 72 enlarges by absorbing seven districts and parts of two others from York and Polk Counties. The new valuation totals 3,674,618 with further increases from land additions, and one Polk district withdrew due to petition shortfall.

County Hospital Special Election Proposed by Petition

Polk County commissioners heard a delegation urging a county hospital vote in a special election. The petition seeks a county-wide election to fund and build a hospital near the county seat with a $150 000 bond issue repayable over twenty years at up to 4 percent interest. The proposal was tabled for a decision at the next meeting with Guildford Bryan Martin Dahlin and Louis Daum present.

RoJean Nelson Weds Loyal Neckar in Grand Island Ceremony

Miss RoJean Nelson daughter of Mrs Alice Nelson Polle and Loyal Neckar son of Mr and Mrs Gilbert Necker Hordville were married Friday at 2 pm in the Methodist Church chapel Grand Island. Rev Allen Judstad read the vows as families attended. A wedding supper followed at the groom’s home. The couple will reside in Hordville.

Two Polk Boys Receive Doctors Degrees

The University of Nebraska held its eighty second commencement on campus awarding 887 degrees. U.S. Attorney General Herbert Brownell Jr a 1924 graduate delivered the address on A New Approach to Justice. Among graduates Doyle Gustafson and Doyle Sundberg received Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees with Sundberg also earning a Bachelor of Science in Dentistry.

Annual School Board Meeting Recessed Till Monday

The meeting of enlarged District 72 was recessed until Monday June 15 at 8 o'clock in hopes of a larger representation. All new legal voters who joined District 72 are urged to attend the rescheduled session.
