Mrs Charles McGinnis, longtime Polk resident, died Tuesday morning at Stromsburg hospital after weeks as a patient. Funeral arrangements had not yet been made.
Clyde Ericson enters Methodist hospital in Omaha for treatment. Edwin L. Anderson travels to Omaha for a post surgical check up. Mrs Anna Webber of Lincoln spends weekend with relatives in Stromsburg. Several families host guests from nearby towns including Council Bluffs and Madison. Memorial Day visitors include Mr and Mrs Jess Austin and Maggie Austin. Others entertain or travel for work and relocation to Skellytown Texas and Nor thern Natural Gas Co.
Mr and Mrs Karl Detloff visited Creston Nebraska with Mrs Detloff visiting her sister. Paul Behm of Bloomville Ohio visited with Aunt Henrie Seymour. Detloffs visited Lincoln with Fred Bartratt family. Frank Davis spent weekend in Omaha. Rev Milford E Olson earned Bachelor of Arts at Nebraska Central College commencement and joined Alumni Association. Sid Crow family attended Arthur Robson funeral in York.
Mrs. Ruth Elaine Lindburg Stevens of Polk Lincoln died from injuries after a two-vehicle collision on the old highway between Polk and Stromsburg. Her husband Robert Stevens and their daughter Susan Jo survived. Memorial services were held in Polk with funeral interment at Polk Cemetery. Survivors include her parents Willard and Ruth Lindburg of Polk and siblings.
Earl Maxwell leads Clarke McNary tree program as Polk County reports 10 11 thousand trees planted this spring. New Farmstead Planning and Home Beautification phases progress with a focus on fairgrounds layout and public demonstrations on DDT spray and beef cattle sites. The Polk County 4 H Saddle Club adds a Quarter Horse Riding Contest at the fair, with 10 members and veteran committee oversight.
About 30 young people attended the Osceola high school event forming a county youth group focused on recreation social activities and education. Officers elected include President Paul Walgreen Vice President Harold Klingman Secretary Dorothy Brigham Treasurer Anabel Mytholar and News Reporter Robert Tooker.
On May 25 the Polk County Extension Clubs hosted a Spring Tea and Bread Demonstration at Stromsburg High School. About 170 women from across the county attended the program featuring Clarice Bloom of the Wheat Flour Institute presenting sweet dough and breads. The event included singing, readings, piano pieces, a tea service, and a display of Christmas gift ideas from the clubs.
Gloria Peterson daughter of Enoch and Mrs Peterson of Polk married Orville L Haggstrom son of Mr and Mrs Gust Haggstrom of Ft Lupton Colorado in a May 15 1948 ceremony at the Little Church Around the Corner in Los Angeles California The double ring ceremony was officiated by Rev E O Forde attendance included Kenneth Haggstrom and Mrs Falk The couple planned a Bear Lake honeymoon and will live in Los Angeles Both graduates of Polk and Wahoo schools with careers in law office stenography and oil company accounting respectively
A county AAA office summary states soil conserving and building practices were done on 549 Polk County farms with 667 cooperating farmers. Contouring, terracing and green manure crops were popular. acres contoured total 4 495, terraces 40 731 feet, green manures plowed 3 594 acres.
A Nebraska Rally themed 34th alumni banquet drew 200 attendees at the high school auditorium on Friday May 28. Debut honors went to 1947 class president Lois Johnson with several out of town guests listed and a memorial tribute to Elaine Lindburg Stevens.
