Recreation Program Highlights And Local Fund Drive
The Summer Recreation Program runs several nights weekly with ball games at Polk and nearby towns. The girls softball team lost to Clarks by one run last Thursday after leading most of the game. Marilyn Sorensen pitched a no hit game with 10 strikeouts for Cairo last Friday. The Pony League boys teams posted losses and victories with Shelby’s 10-11-12 and 13-14 groups showing strong results. The recreation fund totals $449.27 with multiple donations noted and a call for continued contributions.

Three former Polk graduates were among 218 seniors earning Bachelor of Arts degrees at the 77th commencement in Lincoln. Joyce Stewart, Gary Stromberg and Regy Green received their degrees as the service's Baccalaureate was held in the new auditorium Fine Arts Center and the ceremony at Magee Stadium.
