Polk Midgets Rally For Two Wins In Week
The Polk Midgets earned two victories and one loss last week. They beat Clarks 17 to 12 with strong early offense led by Don Widga and Luis Light. In district play Polk defeated Hooper 18 to 4, then fell to Fremont’s David City on the road as errors hurt their defense. Butch Paben and Donnie Widga drew multiple walks while McNaught and Shenk led at the plate.

Roger Long Still Serving In Far East
Roger Long, Boatswain's Mate third class USN, son of Rev and Mrs Long, serves aboard the high speed transport USS Diachenko in the Far East. The ship, part of Tank Force 90, has been active since the Korea conflict began, taking part in the Pohang Dong landing, amphibious landings at Yuchon, and minesweeping duties at Wonsan and Hyngnam.

Baptist Sunday School Picnic Grants Park Entertainment
The annual Baptist Church Sunday School picnic took place in the park on a Monday afternoon. Activities included a softball game at the ball park, a church basement supper, children’s races, games, and a volleyball match, ending with ice cream and cake for about 80 attendees. A family letter from Mr. and Mrs. Dean Nelson describes August F. Nelson’s accident and recovery. He fell on the porch stairs, breaking the leg above the knee, is in traction at Good Samaritan Hospital in Sterling, Colorado, and is expected to stay 2 to 3 months. Cemetery Building Sells For 390 Dollars
The Polk Cemetery building at the bandstand sold at public auction last Wednesday evening July 24. J. Harless was high bidder with 390 dollars. Bidding started briskly but dropped off after 300. Harless will move the structure to his farm east of Polk. Auctioneers were Lloyd Hanquist and Elmer Galusha.
