Polk County land values rose to a high during a 720 acre sale of the Arnold Grossnicklaus estate. Referee K A Cornish oversaw bidding with Mills Mills representing the estate. Total receipts reached 66400 with heirs buying most parcels including Roy Grossnicklaus 240 acres for 30850 and Henry Grossnicklaus 14990 for a 3 mile northeast tract.

About 250 people witnessed the Stromsburg unit of the State Fair Beauty Pageant at the high school auditorium. Constance Swanson, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Swanson, won first place and was named Miss Stromsburg 1936 to represent Stromsburg at the Nebraska State Fair in Lincoln. Forty two contestants represented local businesses in the event sponsored by the Commercial Club under the State Fair Association.

Ostberg Rites Held for Polk County Resident
Funeral services for Erick Ostberg aged 95, long time Polk County resident, were conducted at Swede Plain Church. Born in Sweden in 1841, he emigrated to America in 1867, married Ella Johnson in 1871, and lived in Polk County near Alda. He died at his son Ed J Ostberg’s home. Burial followed at Laclede Cemetery.
