The Redheaded Office Girl and the Bet

Jud, a copy clerk, helps a redheaded job seeker, Kate Galveys, by learning she is Mr. Jones's daughter. He is offered the stenographer job after a bet, then Kate proposes marriage, which he declines. Jud learns his new position comes with a doubled salary after the bet is settled.

York Visitors Share Weekend at Local Homes

York residents hosted and visited relatives during the weekend. Mrs Mary Blair stayed with her sister near Ord while Margaret Ann and Roger Merchant returned home from Dennison after two weeks with grandparents R E Merchant and W W Walkup. The Merchansts and Walkups met the children in Fremont, and other locals hosted guests including the Schra ders and the Carlsons.

Hordville Methodist Church Honors 50th Pastor Anniversary

On Sunday July 23 the Hordville Methodist Church gathered to honor Rev Neils Pearson and his wife for his 50 years as a gospel minister. The surprise celebration included flowers a corsage a dinner and a cake with daisies for the couple and visiting ministers at the parsonage.

Timbers Outlook From California Seen Through Southeast Lenses

Professor F S Baker dean of the Berkeley forestry school reports on a U S Forest Service tour of the Carolinas Florida and Georgia. He notes the southeast is in an upward cycle with rapid growth boosting timber industries and urging better management including thinning soil conservation controlled fire and removal of unwanted species. He compares California forests to the southeast saying California trees start slower but grow steadily once established.
