The Commodity Credit Corporation announces a loan program for 1947 small grains with a loan price of 1.89 dollars per bushel for No 1 wheat stored on farms or in approved elevators in Polk County. A service fee is charged per bushel for farm stored grain and for warehouse grain. The note bears 3 percent interest. An accompanying Wheat Purchase Program lets producers sign an agreement granting an option to sell at the loan price, with no required quantity or sale. Loyalty bill clears House to set up board
The House passed the Federal Employees Loyalty Act of 1947 by 319 to 61 sending it to the Senate. The bill creates a five member Loyalty Review Board to probe all federal workers and applicants using FBI Civil Service and military intelligence files to determine disloyalty. Rep Rees notes key differences from the presidents order including a single standard of loyalty and independent board oversight.

Elmer Sterup, 61, was found dead Friday at his north of Gresham home from a heart attack. He is survived by his mother, two sisters, two brothers and a half brother. Services were held in Gresham with Rev. Paine officiating. Mrs Martha Westfall notes her son Dr Dana Westfall, of Nebraska City, has purchased a new home there and they are moving this week.
