Former Pole Boy Hurlers For University Of Wyo

Johnny Gustafson pitched a one hit game as the University of Wyoming softball team defeated VFW 4 to 0 in seven innings at Washington Park. Gustafson kept the bases empty after the first frame and the UW squad remained undefeated in league play. John Gustafson, a former Polk youth, is the son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Gustafson of this city and began pitching at High Prairie High School.

The Swede Home Church held Seventh Sunday after Trinity services with Sunday School at 10 am and Morning Worship at 11 am. Bible Study follows at 8 pm, with Luther League at 8:15 pm on Thursday. Harvest Progress Report in Polk County Fields

Harvest in Polk County got under way last week as elevators struggle to keep pace with a steady grain flow. Yields run near last year’s average with reports of 15 to 40 bushels per acre. A two week dry spell ended Sunday night with a welcome shower aiding corn prospects.

Braver and Family Return From West Coast Trip

Mr and Mrs H G Braver of Polk and Mrs Baack of Hampton returned from a three week west coast trip. They attended the wedding of the Braver grandson Harwood Kruse in Seattle in June and visited relatives before touring California. Upon arrival they were guests at the Sam Wall residence in Hampton where the Walls had recently taken in two sisters Arlene and Anna.

Extension news on proper use of 24-D sprayers and wheat storage

Farmers are urged to use portable weed sprayers only for 24-D spraying not DDT or heavy chemicals. Clean water and premixed solutions from the district avoid clogs. DDT requires different nozzles and agitation. Encouragement to consider a higher pressure sprayer service for barns and poultry houses.
