County Fair Dates Set For Early August Event

Polk County announces the fair will run August 3 through 6 with Entry Day on Monday and activities starting Tuesday. An Old Timers Parade, free acts by Wheeler Pitttman Co, tentative horse and pony races, livestock parade and fireworks are planned, with Polk’s band performing Tuesday at 1 30 p.m.

Obituary for Mrs. Carolina Nordstrom

Mrs. Carolina Nordstrom born December 28 1868 in Sunne Varmland Sweden died July 1952 at Caceola hospital at age 83 0 0. She immigrated to America in 1880 near Stromsburg Nebraska married Gustaf Nordstrom March 20 1893 and had eight children. Funeral July 15 1963 at Covenant Mission Church in Stromsburg with pallbearers six grandsons.

Midgets to Meet Burg on Home Diamond Sunday

The Polk Midgets will meet the midgets of Stromsburg on the home diamond this Sunday afternoon. Game time is 2 30 p m. This will be the first meeting of the year between these two clubs. A free will offering will be taken to help pay expenses.

Mr and Mrs Raymond Myers and Clarence Myers of North Platte visited their parents Mr and Mrs J B Myers Sunday to help them mark their golden wedding anniversary which occurs later this year.

Nels Hall Dies At York General Hospital

Nels Hall pioneer resident of Polk township died Monday at York General Hospital. Funeral arrangements were not available. Donald Hahn and family of Minneapolis left Monday to move to Seattle after visiting his mother Hannah Hahn and relatives. Other local visitors included Kinney of Wymore Samuels family and Clifford Penrose at Mrs C J McCoy’s home. Robert Sigler Sr. of Osceola and Victor Larson hosted dinner guests Tuesday.

Progress Office Announces July 24 to August 3 Closure

The Progress office will close from July 24 through August 3 during staff vacations. Renewals and new subscriptions may be arranged by contacting Mrs. Charles Lytle at home or by phone 3257. Mrs. Lytle will also handle all orders and work during the closure.

Polk Softballers To Entertain Grand Island Champs

Polk hosts Grand Island Farmers Union in a return match at Polk field under lights at 8:30 Thursday July 30 with no admission. Polk previously routed Grand Island 19 to 4 as Bud Bolton and nine Polk players led a strong hitting effort and five double plays helped blank the visitors through six innings.

Firemen Enjoy T-Bone Steak Feed at Johnsons Tavern

The Polk Volunteer Firemen enjoyed a steak supper at Vic and Edith Johnsons Tavern Thursday evening before the regular monthly meeting. Laurence Gorham was accepted as a fireman at the meeting.

Residents share visits news including Pfc Lorence Blase’s 14 day fur lough from Ft Bliss, and numerous family gatherings at Blase, Dose, Rahrs, Klingsporn, Sagehorn, Gerkensmeyer, and Ziegelbein homes. A birthday celebration for Mrs H W Rahrs and a leave for Pvt Charles Ziegelbein are noted along with town hospitality at Palmer and York Park events.
