Mrs May Johnson Dies At Osceola
Mrs May Johnson 83 died at the Osceola Rest Home Tuesday July 19 where she had lived the past 10 years. She was born May 9 1883 near Arborville daughter of Wm A J and Martha Ice and lived in Arborville early life. She married John Johnson February 19 1902 and the couple lived in York and Polk counties before moving to Polk in 1915. Survivors include five children Willard Milwaukee Wisconsin Muriel Moore Nevada Missouri Martha Johnson Council Bluffs Iowa Woodrow Denison Iowa and Glen Johnson Sacramento California six grandchildren and one brother Jess Ice Oregon. Services tentatively set for Friday July 22 at 10:00 am at Polk Methodist Church with interment Arborville Cemetery. Body at Wall Funeral Home Polk.

Carl Lind 69 Veteran Dies in Lincoln Funeral Held
Carl Lind 69 died Friday July 8 in Lincoln after living at 2915 North 46th Street. Funeral services were held Tuesday July 12 at Fourth Presbyterian Church with Legion Post No 3 military rites and burial at Lincoln Memorial Park. A World War I veteran, he worked 40 years for the State Department of Roads, moving from Stromsburg to Lincoln in 1943. Surviving are wife Lillie and daughters Doris Ridolfi of Indianapolis and Alice Christensen of Holdrege.

Local youth baseball to host two night tournaments
David City and Polk teams played two games last Sunday with the 13-14 year olds winning 3-2 in a pitching duel. Four towns enter 7-8-9 year olds for a Polk-hosted two night tourney on July 25 26, with Gresham vs Bradshaw at 7:00 and Benedict vs Polk at 8:15. A separate 10-11-12 year old tourney in Polk is set for Aug 8 9 11 with eight teams, including Clarks Shelby Benedict Osceola Central City Silver Creek and Polk David City. The girls advance to a state district tournament in David City this weekend. the event was postponed.
