Polk Midgets pushed Aurora in a Sunday league game but fell two runs short 7 to 6. Aurora capitalized on key breaks despite being outhit, while Polk pitchers Carroll Shenk and Denny Cramer shared mound duties. Rebekah Lodge members held an installation of new officers on Thursday evening in Shelby. Ella Cramer was installed Noble Grand with Esther Larson as Vice Grand and Iva Cramer as Secretary. Wilda Holmes became Treasurer, with other officers named. The event featured an all Christess lunch and ended with a pleasant evening for about thirty attendees.

Church Ladies Plan Program and Picnic Honor Local Guests

The W.S.C.S. of Swede Plain Church hosted a post meridian lesson and program led by Mrs. Harvey Lind and Mrs. Robert Shostrom with songs by Mrs. Rol and Bodine and a duet by Karen Shostrom and Mary Mae Pergon. Readings by Mrs. Phillip Johnson and Mrs. Lloyd Lind followed. Social hour refreshments were provided by hostesses Mrs. Willard Adelson and Mrs. Russell Fjall. A concurrent picnic at Polk Park honored Mr. and Mrs. Meredith Willett and family of Yankton, South Dakota, drew a large group including Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Peterson and many others.

Bankers Edge Oilers In Thriller

In a tense finish the Bankers beat the Oilers 4 to 3 with an error by the Oilers outfield proving costly. Bud Bolton and Rube Anderson combined for strong pitching, Bolton allowing two hits in relief as the Bankers climb to second place while the Oilers sit third. The second game saw Johnson’s club rout Legion 11 to 2 as Sagehorn and Johnson shut down the Legion bats.

Fire Destroys Hay Stack On Heiden Farm

Polk Fire Department answered a call to the Lows Weiden area six miles north and east of Polk last Saturday at 5 am. A 25 to 30 ton stack of chopped alfalfa was destroyed. Cause undetermined. Firefighters remained on scene about fifteen minutes after the call.

Building Improvements Noted on Main Street

Two improvements on Main Street are described. Alpha Levene received a new roof with colored shingles at the depot. The Farmers Produce store raised the back room floor, adding cement work to create better feed storage and a clearer truck driveway.

Former Polk Resident Dies In Aurora

Funeral services were held in Aurora for L. T. Joseph 83 a former Polk resident. He had lived in Aurora for several years and was buried in the Lutheran Cemetery at Polk.
