Polk County to Host Beauty Pageant at County Fair
Polk County directors voted to stage a beauty pageant during the county fair on August 25. The Nebraska State Fair Association backs similar contests to pick a representative for Atlantic City. George Larson farmer lived nearby loses a Chevrolet sedan in a late Friday blaze. He and Emil F. Johnson of Stromsburg were returning from town when straw in a threshing field caught fire after the car backfired. Both occupants uninjured. loss partially insured. Polk Fire Department contained fire to prevent spread to nearby buildings.

Mrs. Tom Reece of Shelby died July 10 at Emmanuel hospital at age 35. Funeral Monday at Osceola Methodist Church with Rev. W. H. Wright officiating. burial in Osceola Cemetery. She was active in Eastern Star and Royal Neighbor lodges and had lived in Shelby and Osceola. The obituary notes her marriage to Thomas A. Reece and her varied church involvement.

Funeral services for Olaf Hult 88 were held at Victor Anderson Chapel and Swedish Baptist Church in Stromsburg. Born in Sweden in 1847, he immigrated in 1866, lived in Galesburg Illinois, moved to Polk County Nebraska in 1872, later lived in Oregon and California, and spent his final years with his daughter in Lincoln. Survived by son Lawrence and two daughters Irma and Mrs John Fredrickson. Burial in Swede Home Cemetery.

Nebraska Counties Get 275 Dividend From Ak-Sar-Ben Race
J B Rossiter chairman Nebraska State Racing Commission announced that every qualified county in Nebraska will receive an initial 275 dividend from the Ak-Sar-Ben race meet tax with a second distribution later this year. The payment helps fund county fairs for premiums and 4 H work as attendance rose and the state collects 15 cents per admission plus a 200 daily license fee from Ak-Sar-Ben. Rossiter praised Ak-Sar-Ben officials for conduct and cooperation with state representatives.
