Polio Serum Stock Placed at Grand Island in Nebraska

Grand Island is among eight Nebraska locations chosen to receive poliomyelitis serum to curb the disease spread. Dr Mdlezal of Omaha, representing the Nebraska State Medical Association, collected blood from local polio survivors over 15 to add to the serum supply. Donors include Elmer and Earl Waak, Gertrude Nelson, Serena Meerkatz, and Delvin Newton. The serum, while not a cure, aids defense and is prepared from patient blood. Nebraska epidemic statistics show 48 recoveries in 73 treated cases.

Cooperative Cold Storage Lockers Possible in Osceola

Plans were made last week to form a cooperative cold storage locker in Osceola. Howard L. Peterson and Walter Berck led talks to organize a plant with signed Agreement to Participate blanks to secure a Farm Security Administration loan. If 400 agreements are signed a mass meeting will elect a board of directors to set sizes and rental prices, with options around $9 a year for a 2x2x3 box or about $5 for a smaller unit.
