County Rural Radio ALSN Committee Organized

Stanley Harless Polk County Rural Radio Chairman announced precinct captains were chosen at a Stromsburg meeting. The committee will recruit workers in each precinct to advance rural radio membership after harvest. The Lexington station will operate 25,000 watts on 2010 frequency with farmer owned sponsorship.

Merry Makers 4-H Club Holds July Meeting at Johnson Home

The Merry Makers 4-H Club met July 5 at Harleen Johnson's home with fourteen members and two visitors. Roll call shared table manners and dishwashing rules, then lessons covered cooking and canning. Mary Lou Sandell and Judy J. Johnson led games, Carmen Sandell performed, lunch was served, and the next meeting is set for July 24 at Sally Ann Peterson's home with Donna Cohagan assisting.

Fourth of July at Harrington Farm with neighbors

Neighbors gathered at W. W. Harrington Farm for a Fourth of July wiener roast and a rain-protected fireworks display. Guests included the Norquests, Jankys, Bills, Lackeys, Morris, Larkin families, Smidbergs, and Angles. A quonset served as shelter from rain and attendees enjoyed hot dogs and fireworks.

Lincoln Visit Recalls Local Families Vacation Plan

Mr and Mrs Lloyd Kroger and family and Mr and Mrs Eldon Johnson with Lavonne Lyle were Sunday guests of Mr and Mrs Elroy Krantz in Lincoln. Mr and Mrs Fred Bartzatt and family of Lincoln stayed with her parents, Mr and Mrs Karl Detloff. Early Sunday the Bartratt family with Mr Detloff left for a vacation trip to Denver and other Colorado points.

Sinclair Oil Station Reopens Under New Manager

ten years ago on July 4 the Sinclair Oil Station reopened under Willard Cornell of Brainard. He plans to move his family there when housing becomes available, as Polk County notes the first fireworks injury of the year with 11 year old Gene Glasser losing a finger and breaking bones after a firecracker exploded. Donnell Robert Krader born June 21 to Astoya Krader and former residents now in California. Funeral services were held for David Earl Bush at his home and Mt. Zion A B church with Rev. R M Bailey officiating.
