Yaquis Yield Independence in Mexico City
Yaqui warriors submit to a non-Yaqui commander and join the Mexican army at Port Perote Veracruz. Gen Francisco Manzo led a three year campaign with 13,000 troops and nine airplanes before surrendering under terms that allowed Yaqui leadership to persist under General Ignacio Mori. The end of Yaqui independence leaves a small force in the Bacatete mountains with language and customs intact despite integration into Mexico.
