Phyllis Rhode of Polk and Michard Pinnow of Baker Montana wed in a June ceremony at Immanuel Lutheran Polk Nebraska. Rev CC W Long officiated with C E Germeroth at organ. The bride wore white organdy with seed pearls while Barbara Rhode served as maid of honor. The couple plans to live in Baker Montana after July 6.

Theodore A Stevens obituary details long life and service
Theodore Alphonso Stevens born August 10 1872 near La Motte Iowa died June 1953 at Stromsburg hospital aged 79 years 10 months 15 days. He lived near Polk Nebraska, married Mabel Florence Putman December 12 1899 and raised eleven children. He served on the Polk school board and cemetery board, joined the Methodist Church in 1931, and retired from farming eight years prior to his death. Funeral services were held at the home and Methodist Church June 29 1953 with burial at Polk Cemetery.

Miss Lolo Jean Fossberg and Philip Meline exchanged vows Sunday afternoon June 29 at First Baptist Church Grand Island in a 2 o clock double ring ceremony. Rev Wayne Dalton officiated as family and friends attended a reception at the John Adams home Hastings. After a Black Hills honeymoon the couple will reside in Grand Island where they are employed.

In Tuesday softball action the Co-op Oilers lost 5 3 to Johnsons as Wayne Ramsey hit a three run homer in the seventh after the Oilers led 3 2. In the nightcap the Legion fell 8 7 to the Bankers as Laverne Schulze delivered the deciding hit in the seventh. Alph Levene and Wayne Ramsey also homered for the Bankers in a slugger filled evening.

Wheat Harvest In Area In Full Swing In Polk County
Harvest in the Polk area began last Saturday with most work expected this weekend. Early loads include Bill Stromberg and Paul Coover with measured moisture around 14 to 12.5 percent and weights near 60 pounds. Farmers report moisture up to 17 percent and yields ranging 25 to 30 bushels per acre, with oats suffering more from heat. Corn stands knee high or better and will be ready to lay by before wheat harvest peaks.

Hats Off to August Nelson for a lifetime of skill
The Polk community honors August Nelson a 70 plus year old craftsman who cooked cleaned sewed embroidered and knit rag rugs for decades after a painter and paper hanger by trade. With his wife dead since 1945 he raised six children and now retires after three strokes while planning visits to his sons and grandchildren across Oregon Colorado and Omaha.
