Corn-Hog Payments Approved in Polk County
Approval of second Corn-Hog payments under the 1925 contracts in Polk County was received July 1 at the Osceola agricultural agent’s office. The total approved amount is 115,554.49 dollars and checks should arrive within a week. Notices will be mailed to all payees when the checks arrive.

Carl August Arenius Swanson died at 4 30 am on Saturday June 27 1986 at his Swede Home Nebraska home aged 71 years eight months and 19 days He was born October 5 1864 in Kristdala Parish Kalmar Sweden and emigrated to the United States in 1881 He leaves wife Minnie Swanson eight children fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren Funeral services were held June 30 1926 at the Swede Home Lutheran Church with burial in Swede Home Cemetery.

Polk County National Farm Loan Association of Osceola reports the 3.5 percent rate on Federal Land Bank loans will stay in effect until July 1, 1937 after Congress amended farm credit laws. The extension saves about 16 500 dollars for 170 local borrowers while 5 percent on commission loans remains unchanged. The association shows 1.1 million dollars outstanding.

Stores to Close on July Fourth
The Grocery Stores Cream Stations and similar places will close at ten o clock on Saturday July 4 for Independence Day observance. Drug stores restaurants filling stations will stay open in the afternoon and evening to serve the public. All stores will open Friday evening after a local custom, until the usual Saturday night closing hour. Remind friends that Friday night will be open night in Polk instead of Saturday night.

Former Polk Resident Killed In Truck Crash
Hirman Levi Jones sixty of Ogallala was killed in a U S Highway truck crash Saturday night. His brother Tom Jones of Ogallala was injured with head and face abrasions and could not recall the crash. Authorities say a passing truck may have forced the Jones vehicle into a ditch. The front end was demolished and two sons and a daughter survive.

Mentink Leaves Hospital After Serious Truck Crash
Ralph Mentink, badly hurt when his truck overturned two weeks ago, was discharged and sent home yesterday. Osceola Ball Club dropped two poorly played games to the Lincoln Clowns here last Sunday losing 6 to 4 in each contest after a late-arriving visiting team delayed the finish past four o'clock.
