Farewell for Jim Dose Before Leaving for Service in Harlan Dose Home

Community notes list social visits across North Platte and surrounding towns. Many families including Blases, Ziegelbeins, Johnsons, Meerkatz, and Doses shared Sunday and weekday meals, hospital visits, and gatherings in homes from North Platte to Sutton, York, and Stromsburg.

Odd Dozen Extension Club Opens Year With Meeting

The Odd Dozen Extension Club held its first meeting of the year on Tuesday January 18 at Mrs. Frank Waugh's home. The group discussed the program planned for the coming year and lunch was provided by the hostess at the close.

Aker Re-elected Local Farmers Union Leader at Stromsburg

P W Aker was re elected president of the Polk Local of the Farmers Union after dinner at a Stromsburg cafe. Ben Peterson and M G Lindburg were re elected vice president and secretary treasurer. Aker named representative to February state convention in Lincoln. Also shown are Lindburgs with slides from the ABA Youth trip to Washington. Other talks covered the income tax bill and referendums. Seventh grade honor roll and social notices follow.

Polk Garden Club Holds First Meeting at Janice Saylor Home

The Polk Garden Club opened its year with 12 members at Mrs. Janice Saylor’s home. Edna Neeman led the session to settle old business. Mrs. Saylor installed new officers for the year and a luncheon followed hosted by Mrs. Saylor and Mrs. Marjorie Lindholm. Irene Widga became president with Violet Sundberg as vice president Garnet Miller secretary treasurer Ester Lackey reporter and photographer.

District WMS meets in Polk Evangelical Free Church

The Eastern Division of the WMS met in the Polk Evangelical Free Church Tuesday with district president Mrs Ralph Johnson presiding. Rev Jack Store of Minden spoke and Mrs Store provided bell music while Polk ladies served lunch to 115 attendees.

Meadowlarks 4-H Club Meeting Demonstration and Sewing

The Meadowlarks 4-H held its last meeting on January 8 at Leanne Sundberg's. Leanne demonstrated biscuits, followed by needlework. A lunch prepared by Mrs Sundberg closed the gathering.

Polk Happenings at Home Visits in the Area

Mr and Mrs C Marvin Fredrickson and Mrs Hartwig Flodman visited Mrs Julia Flodman Saturday evening. Mr and Mrs Dwight Burney were Friday callers in the Walter Binford home. Curtis Flodman and David Fjell returned home for mid term from Kearney State College to spend vacation with their parents Russell and Mrs Fjell.
