James St Clair Green born August 29 1868 in St. Louis Missouri died January 18 1947 in Polk Nebraska at age 75 He married Elsie M Compton August 7 1895 and had four daughters and one son All surviving They moved from Kansas to Nebraska then Oregon before returning to Polk He was a rural mail carrier and active in the Methodist Church and M F B Church He leaves wife four daughters one son eight grandchildren four great grandchildren four brothers two sisters and many relatives The poem notes his guiding faith in departure.

Compliance reminders for 1946 AAA program reported
The 1946 AAA program requires all compliance reporting to the County Office before February 1, 1947. Farmers with practices completed by December 31, 1946 should report promptly if not yet done. About 175 corn samples were tested under the CCC grain loan program, with roughly 30 percent ineligible due to moisture. Twenty six farmers and landowners have completed corn loans totaling 80.10 bushels. Loans run through July 31, 1947 at 1.06 dollars per bushel for No 3 or better corn, plus a sealing fee of 1.0 percent per loan with a $3 minimum. Loans on shelled corn will be available in June and July for moisture not above 13.5 percent.

Nebraska’s Pawnee Scouts under Major Frank J. North fought Sioux and Cheyenne from 1864 to 1877, wearing U S Army uniforms yet retaining scalp locks. Luther and Frank North led the unit and later ranching near Columbus with Buffalo Bill. Luther’s recollections survive in state archives. A wedding dance honors Mr. and Mrs. Henry Taddiken in Shelby with music by Duffy Belorad.

Mrs Augusta Person 82 died at Hastings Sunday January 19. She was sister to Claus and Godfrey Lindahl living near Polk and later lived with her brother Godfrey after her husband’s death. Survived by two sons and one daughter. Funeral at Hordville Baptist Church with Rev Edick Anderson officiating. Interment in Hordville cemetery. Obituary next week.

Omaha man injured in accidental gun discharge during hunting
Ralph W. Coulson of Omaha was injured Sunday when a gun he handled discharged. The bullet hit his leg above the knee, shattering the bone, and he was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment. Coulson and his wife were guests of Mrs Coulson’s daughter Mrs Melvin Wilcox and family. accompanying men were Mr and Mrs Guy Kelly. They were nine miles from town on a hunting trip.
