Polk County Soil and Water Board Develops Work Plan

The Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District board met at the SCS office in Osceola to update the annual work plan. Attendees included Glen Krohn Gene Sterup and SCS technicians joined an irrigation oriented workshop planned for January 17 19 24 26 at Bit o Sweden Cafe Stromsburg with support from County Agent Krohn. Farmers are urged to visit the Osceola office for soil maps and technical assistance in conservation planning.

Fall Weather Aids Polk County Conservation Work

Favorable fall weather boosted conservation efforts in Polk County during three months from October to January 1 1966. By December 460 acres were leveled for irrigation and four dams plus a grass-back terrace system expanded irrigation capacity to 3.3 miles and 7 000 feet of diversions. Local workers named include Bill Umstead Verner Ahlquist Osceola and Jean Dickens Columbus plus Ralph Simpson Stromsburg Kent Perry Homer Ingalls Shelby and others. The Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District offers technical planning help for farms.

Lt Lanny Fenster Graduates as Air Force Pilot Instructor

First Lieutenant Lanny R. Fenster son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Fenster of Bradshaw has graduated from the U S Air Force pilot instructor course at Randolph AFB Tex He is now qualified to teach student pilots to fly jets and will be assigned to Craig AFB Ala as part of the Air Training Command which runs the Air Force flying technical and education programs.

New Legislation Expands Rural Housing Credit in Polk County

The Farmers Home Administration credits broaden under the Demonstration Cities and Metropolitan Development Act signed by President Johnson. Polk County families, including younger applicants with cosigners, gain access to rural housing loans and refinancing options to avoid foreclosure. Social Security Man to Visit Osceola January 23

A social security representative from Lincoln will visit Osceola on January 23. He will be on the courthouse second floor from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. Self employed businessmen or farmers should have an extra copy of their tax return prepared by their accountant if applying for benefits this year.
