County Extension Office schedules January meetings and events

The Extension Office lists 37 January meetings with 10 to 15 project specialists from the University presenting on soils furniture refinishing and more. The irrigation workshop draws about 32 farmers at Bit-o-Sweden on January 17 19 24 and 26. A furniture refinishing workshop is set for Osceola January 26.

Boxer Baby Beef 4 H Club Holds Nutrition Lessons

The Boxer Baby Beef 4 H Club met January 3 at Polk Community Hall for the first of six lessons on animal nutrition focusing on digestive systems. A blocking demonstration was planned for February or March. Lunch was served by Mrs Irvin Beckstrom. January 10 session at the same hall reviewed the nutrition lesson. New members include Gary Anderson Gale Stevens Rodney and Terri Warner and Colin and Pamalee Peterson. The next meeting is February 8 at Polk Community Hall with lunch served by Mrs Arnold Wendell and Mrs Gilbert Anderson. Barbara Glasser visited Omaha and returned to Polk for the semester break from the Chicago Bible Institute.

Pvt Richard Steever Completes Infantry Training

Army private Richard J. Steever aged 19 son of Mr and Mrs John L Steever of Bradshaw finished eight weeks of advanced infantry training at Ft Ord California on January 10. He received instruction in small unit tactics and firing weapons including the M 14 rifle the M 60 machine gun and the 3 5 inch rocket launcher.

Polk County social news lists visits by Mr and Mrs Curtis Hoffman and family of Benedict to Mr and Mrs Martin Hoffman Sr. Mr and Mrs Dick Harless and children to Mr and Mrs Don Shostrom and son. Friday guests at Dwight Burney include Robert Anderson Paul Sagehorn Irvin Anderson Enoch Peterson and Ben Peterson. Ralph Swedenburg Craig and Pamela of Clarks with Hannah Hahn and Doyle visited Harold Hanquist and shared lunch.

East Side Birthday Club Meets at Mrs Werner Home

The East Side Birthday Club gathered Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Ray Werner and guest Mrs George Scott. A nice lunch was served by Mrs Werner. Mr and Mrs Lawrence Hoffman were Tuesday visitors in the Martin Hoffman Sr home.
