Cubs Beat Shelby Then Fall to Benedict in Week

Polk High Cubs, coached by Karl Adamson, went 1-1 in the week to reach a 6-2 record. They lost 68-58 to Benedict at Benedict but defeated Shelby 57-39 at home. Next they host undefeated Clarks Blue Bombers in Goldenrod Conference play. Benedict led by Gary Neinheuser scored 20. Steve Carlstrom had 21 for Polk.

NFO Supper Draws 150 To Meeting

The NFO supper Thursday drew about 150 members and guests. Area Chief Edwin Tyrdy explained agricultural marketing problems and NFO actions. Attendees included bankers, storekeepers, press and elevator men. special recognition went to Nepal student Bhrigu Nath Prasas, Polk County Farm Bureau president Walter Berck, Alfred Schroeder of Platte Center, and Joe Zitek of Surprise, NFC fieldmen in the area.

Folk Junior MYF Meets After School

The Junior MYF of Polk United Methodist Church met in the church parlor after school on January 8. Michael Flodman and Bruce Hudson led a panel discussion on What We Want To Be. Lunch was served by Mrs Wayland Flodman and Mrs Don Hudson. They were invited by Swede Plain MYF to a skating party at the Aurora rink on January 30.

Stockholders Honor R C Gustafson's 50 Years In Bank

R C Gustafson president of the First State Bank at Hordville received special recognition at the annual stockholders and families dinner in Grand Island. He began in 1918 as a bookkeeper and janitor and recounted a 1921 bank robbery vault confinement with $1000 in $20 gold pieces never recovered. The event included remarks by family and local attendees and a gold desk plaque was presented.

Auxiliary To Sponsor Roller Skating Party

The American Legion Auxiliary plans a roller skating party for Grades 1-8 at the Legion Hall during their Monday meeting led by President Elaine Miller. The event will occur Saturday afternoon February 8. Donations were approved totaling 15 to Little Red School and 5 to each of March of Dimes Heart Fund Red Cross Cancer and Radio Free Europe. The hymn Eternal Father Strong To Save was sung and 17 members shared a lunch prepared by Jo Ostberg Margaret Brockevelt Jean Anderson and Elaine Miller.
